Just been diagnosed, BC - triple negative

Hi there,

I joined the group a couple of weeks ago after my scan and biopsy and found it useful and supportive reading what everyone is going through and their advice whilst we all face the C word!

I've now received my diagnosis and plucked up the courage to say 'HI!' :)  I'm still reading up on all the booklets i've received. A strange feeling really counting the days down to your appointment like a holiday without the excited feeling and now coming home with loads of booklets and not holiday brochures.  i feel strange that i have a sense of relief but a strange relief as I do have cancer and not the all clear.  Does anyone else have these mixed feelings?

I've been diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3 and triple negative.  Well from my understanding, i'm waiting for the confirmations to all come in the post.  I remember them saying 18 weeks chemo, 5cm tumour, lymph nodes, masectomy, radiotherapy....

I still feel very detached and like they are talking about someone else as i dont feel ill.  I was hoping to be pregnant :( so feel very sad tonight that is unlikely to happen now with my diagnosis and that i'm 42.

So mixed feelings all around tonight.

  • Hi Mich

It feels odd not having to go to oncology this week, the last 6 months has been just app after app as you ladies know and now I dont have any booked it's just a tad strange lol, I do have an app with my oncologist 3rd aug but that maybe a telephone one. My boob so far feels ok so hopefully it will stay that way.

That's good you have had your mammogram but not so good that your rads run over, our unit has 6 machines and I'd been on 4 of them lol

Hope the rest of you ladies are doing ok.

    hugs

    Linda xx

Hope the rest of you ladies are

  • Hi Davia,

Thanks for the reminder, yup I'll carry on.  I've still got good movement in my arm as I'm often stretching it and still faffing with painting!  I think i still have fluid as there is a little lump under my arm pitt and i can see my left arm is slightly bigger around my wrist. Aww,that must be painful.  I hear you can have physio for cording that gets rid of it quite easily.

Bet it does feel strange for you , especially with what you have been through in the last year.  good to focus on the moment and keep grounded.  You'll beat this!

Linda, aww sure it does feel strange.  I know i'm going to feel odd once its finished, will have to go back to work lol! and not as a painter! Wow 6!  Apparently Canterbury had 3 but the 3rd one they decomissioned (if thats the right word) as it was the oldest in the country haha!  Glad its doing ok, i see some ladies have issues afterwards, hope we dont though. I'm slapping on loads of aveeno and e45.

    Big hugs

    xxx

  • Hi Mich

My rads are going well...i only have two left now and the side effects have been pretty minimal to be honest...my chest wall is a little itchy in one part but that's it really - i guess having no boob minimises the side effects somewhat. I'm also finding it a bit more difficult to get my arm in the arm stirrup as it's been a bit stiffer, though i do my exercises at least 4 times a day.

Davia - i had a little bit of cording a few weeks after my op, it's quite unpleasant isnt it....but i was advised to stretch as far as was comfortable and to carry on with the exercises unless i had severe pain. My BCN said to do the exercises for at least 6 months if not longer...

With regard to meeting up - something close to Davia sounds brilliant - i'd love a day trip down south - we can hopefully make some plans when this covid situation eases

Claire, Karyn, Linda, SueBea, Kebb, Jan and Sacha - wishing you all well

To everyone - have a lovely weekend

Stay safe and love to allxxxxx

  • Hi Ladies,

Davia, I hope you get on ok with your scan, I'll be thinking of you as we all will.

I wish I lived a bit closer to you all, a few of you live in kent. If anyone or all of you ever feel like a trip down to Leigh on Sea Essex I would happily provide lunch. I am in walking distance of the beach, I hope I am selling it to you?

I haven't had any side effects from radiotheraphy, no soreness or redness so I am wondering if it worked. My boob has shrunk a bit so I know it did something.

    lots of love to everyone,

    Sue xxx

  • I'm definitely in for a trip to yours Sue!

I had no side effects from rads either, no reddening, nothing. I asked if that was strange and they said no, everyone is different.

  • Hi Claire,

It really would be fantastic to meet up with you and everyone. It's definitely a date for after the lockdown.

It's strange how some people suffer from the effects of radiotherapy and others come out unscathed.

    Xxx

  • Ah that would be great Sue, never been to Leigh on sea. Been to IKEA Lake side lol! I can make us a celebration cake

I can see my skin has changed colour, it's pinkish now after 6 sessions, 9 more to go.

Did your skin not change colour at all ladies? Can't remember did you use special cream? I'm using aveeno and also e45 alternate between them. I saw the pic the lady put on the group of her skin and scared me a bit lol!

    Xx

  • Hi Mich,

Leigh on Sea is nothing like Lakeside, it's a little fishing village. Cake sounds good, and a celebration cake even better. It's most definitely a date.

My skin didn't change colour and I didn't get soreness. I didn't use any moisturizer only bio oil.

    Love to everyone

  • I saw that picture, poor woman! My skin didn't change colour at all x

  • Hi Ladies thanks for good wishes on mammogram today, all went well, was a bit uncomfy on bad boob but doable, Tuesday is pet scan day.

Cake and leigh on sea sounds lovely, let's hope we get a vaccine for this crap virus and we can have a party

Mitch, everyone's skin reacts differently, my boob went very red with a prickle heat type rash, the area around neck didn't change colour at all, I even phoned to make sure they hadn't missed it but was told no it was done, some ladies get a red patch on there shoulder, but I didn't. I saw that photo to and was shocked, bless her, oh the only thing I did get was a asthma kind of breathlessness, not very bad but a bit discerning, again I asked and this can happen as lung gets clipped and can become slightly inflamed, again doesn't happen to everyone. Have very cool showers so no heat on the area, but ask the radiologists if there is anything your worried about, there very good. I had itching so bought 1% hydrocortisone cream that stopped it. All I have now is one white boob and one tanned boob

Keep well ladies, much love xxx
