Just been diagnosed, BC - triple negative

Hi there,

I joined the group a couple of weeks ago after my scan and biopsy and found it useful and supportive reading what everyone is going through and their advice whilst we all face the C word!

I've now received my diagnosis and plucked up the courage to say 'HI!' :)  I'm still reading up on all the booklets i've received. A strange feeling really counting the days down to your appointment like a holiday without the excited feeling and now coming home with loads of booklets and not holiday brochures.  i feel strange that i have a sense of relief but a strange relief as I do have cancer and not the all clear.  Does anyone else have these mixed feelings?

I've been diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3 and triple negative.  Well from my understanding, i'm waiting for the confirmations to all come in the post.  I remember them saying 18 weeks chemo, 5cm tumour, lymph nodes, masectomy, radiotherapy....

I still feel very detached and like they are talking about someone else as i dont feel ill.  I was hoping to be pregnant :( so feel very sad tonight that is unlikely to happen now with my diagnosis and that i'm 42.

So mixed feelings all around tonight.

Mich x

  • Hi Davia,

It's really lovely hearing from you. Sorry you've had a rough time but thankfully you've got the all clear.

I had my first radiotherapy this morning and it went ok. I wasn't given a face mask and didn't have my temperature taken. I was meant to be having 4 weeks of radiotherapy but was told today that I would have the same amount of radiation but in 3 weeks due to the virus. It's all very unsettling as I'm not having any follow up appointments which I'm not happy about.

Stay strong Davia, I know it's hard especially when you don't get the news you hope for. Try and remember that the hospital staff are experts so you are getting excellent care.

    Lots of love XXX

  • Hi Sue

Glad it all went well, I am having three weeks of rads to, 15 days, my next follow up app is booked in for 22nd June with oncologist, maybe yours will come through after radiotherapy,

Have you got the big TV above your head in the radiotherapy room? It shows lovely beach scenes and fish under water? I love it, I've even tried to work out what time it is on the beach by where the shadows lay, how sad is that lol and I look at the people standing in the water and wonder how many are having a pee

    Take care sue, keep well

  • Hi Davia & Ladies

I'm not doing too bad thanks I have my post op telephone appointment on Thursday afternoon so am hoping he says I have clear margins and nodes, I'm not worrying about it tbh because I cant change what it is either way it would just mean i wont need more surgery.

I will be having rads but not yet, my consultant said I need my wounds to heal first.

Sorry to hear you have been having a crap time Davia, I think this CV is making everything seem 10x worse but tbh I am glad to be staying in than mixing with the idiots who think its acceptable to carry on regardless.

Sue how did your radiotherapy go? I hope you're feeling a lot brighter than you were.

Mich hows the healing coming along, have you had your drains removed yet?

Stay safe ladies, we are nearly at the finishing line of this whirlwind we found ourselfs in.

Sending you all a big virtual 2 metres hug.

    Linda x

  • Hi Ladies,

Davia, yep pretty beach scenes above my head and now you have made me wonder about the pee lol.

Well, number 2 is out of the way so the countdown has begun.

Linda, I hope your phone consultation goes well, I'm sure it will. The radiotherapy is a breeze compared to chemo.

Mich, how are you doing? The boredom is the getting to me now as i'm usually quite active and love walking.

    Love to you all,

    Sue xxxx

  • Hey Ladies,

Ah thanks for your messages ;)  I'm doing better today.  Was just getting so frustrated at myself this weekend and would cry at everything and just wanted loads of chocolate lol!  It seems to be warmer today so going to head into the garden.  I have a trellis to paint, which will be easy enough with my right arm so will give that a go.

Glad to hear radiotherapy is going well Sue and Davia. Hmm i'm intrueged about the beach on the ceiling!  I know when i had one of my scans the ceiling tiles were under the sea theme!

Dont worry about not giving good news Davia, we are all in this together and thats what we are here for to chat and let us know whats going on and what we are facing.  I have my follow up appointment on the 28th April.  With your arm did you have swelling down to your wrist?  I also have swelling under my armpitt which i guess is all the fluid now the drain is out. He said it would eventually go away but haven't seen any change yet.  I guess this weekend i thought i would see an improvment in my mobility but cant see if yet and started to panic that my arm will never be normal again. Some days i only did the exercises for once instead of 3 times as too painful, with these week 2 exercises.

Something that will make you laugh, i decided one day last week for whatever reason i'll put a sports bra on as will support my right boob in the garden and the swelling on the left.  Err not a good idea i got stuck in it as i couldn't pull it down properly to stuck on my head and top of my arms.  Hubby was in the garden with ear phones in so couldn't even call him, hmm maybe i should of gone outside like that.  Anyways i got out of it in the end but was painful and i was so upset.  I've now ordered some vest tops from M&S with hidden support as i just feel like i need something comforting against my chest.

Yeah i'm also struggling not getting out walking and feeling like a fat lump lol! Hence going to faff with paint today, hmmm.

Good luck with your appointment on Thursday Linda :)

    Hugs all around

    xxx

  • BTW ladies are you managing with food deliveries?  Hubby was going once a week to tesco until my friend told me off and says he shouldn't leave the house even for once a week!  So trying delivery.  Got click and collect a couple of weeks ago and got our very first food delivery coming this afternoon!  We always go out food shopping so never done this before lol!

My friend lives around the corner has a vunerable husband so we've been helping each other out.

Have you ladies been managing?  Did you get the letters from the government?  I signed up to the website but ticked the boxes that we dont need extra support as i dont live on my own. Sainsbury said they would have delivery slots for any vunverable households but my post code doesn't qualify.  Hmm weird maybe i should of said i need help.

  • Mich I have had emails from sainsburys, asda, iceland and tesco offering me shopping slots but they are hard to get even with the delivery pass. I have had 3 from shops delivered from tesco and i find them ok but next week i couldnt get a slot so i will save money haha

I registered with the automated 0800 number on the letter we had and for the last 2 weeks I have had a great food box delivered, I think if you ring it again and say you have no 1 to go shopping they will just appear with a box of goodies.

  • Hi Mich,

Thank you for your message, xx

I hope your feeling better mood wise today, my op was different to yours, I didn't have a mastectomy, for some reason they decided as the breast was clear to leave it, so my swelling is under arm like yours, feels like a ball is stuck under my arm and my boob is swollen again I'm thinking this is the fluid, it's not to uncomfortable so I'm just living with it at the moment,

I know excersize are painful but try if you can to do as much as you can, 3, 4, or even 5 times a day, it really helps with fluid and will stop you getting cording only take the arm to the point before pain and each time try and get further, it's hard I know but best in the long run, it's like excersizing, first day you ache like a pig but as time goes on you gain more strength you need to get your arm above your head before radiotherapy,  tiny steps

Sue glad your Radiotherapy went well today, mine was so slow, a machine was out so they were trying to fit everyone in on the other 5 machines I had sting rays swimming on my screen today and then central park in new York   are your appointment times all over the place? I had 17:45 yesterday and 10:55 today, tomorrow its 13:00, much preferred the 17:45 nobody around and in - out in 20 min

    Stay well ladies, virtual hugs

  • Oh forgot to mention food deliveries.

I also filled out the form like you did Mich, my hubby can't go out like yours as he could bring the virus in.

We have been using local farm shops, we have three in the area and they have been brilliant, I have a delivery arriving today, I never got an email or text from any supermarkets and trying to get a delivery slot is impossible.

Linda are you on your own? I wonder if it's because Mitch and me ticked the box that someone was living with us but I will try the phone number

    Keep well all xxx

  • Hi ladies,

Davia, my appointments range from 8am - 9am. When my appointments got arranged, my hasband was working so I asked for early appointments if possible. He is now off work for 3 months so anytime would be ok. I like early appointments as the hospital is deserted.

I also get food parcels sent through which is a godsend as it's really hard getting home delivery slots.

    love to all,

    Sue xx
