Just been diagnosed, BC - triple negative

Hi there,

I joined the group a couple of weeks ago after my scan and biopsy and found it useful and supportive reading what everyone is going through and their advice whilst we all face the C word!

I've now received my diagnosis and plucked up the courage to say 'HI!' :)  I'm still reading up on all the booklets i've received. A strange feeling really counting the days down to your appointment like a holiday without the excited feeling and now coming home with loads of booklets and not holiday brochures.  i feel strange that i have a sense of relief but a strange relief as I do have cancer and not the all clear.  Does anyone else have these mixed feelings?

I've been diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3 and triple negative.  Well from my understanding, i'm waiting for the confirmations to all come in the post.  I remember them saying 18 weeks chemo, 5cm tumour, lymph nodes, masectomy, radiotherapy....

I still feel very detached and like they are talking about someone else as i dont feel ill.  I was hoping to be pregnant :( so feel very sad tonight that is unlikely to happen now with my diagnosis and that i'm 42.

So mixed feelings all around tonight.

Mich x

  • Hello ladies, hope you don't mind me gatecrashing your thread, but I've just read through it all and it's made me feel so much better, your all so nice and posative

I was diagnosed with triple negative BC in June, I am on my 5 of 8 cycles of chemo, these last four being Carpoplatin and paxataxil, there breaking down the paxataxil to every week, i have my last chemo on 6th January and although we shouldn't wish our lives away, I can't wait, after that it will be surgery and radiotherapy, I have three lymph nodes under my arm and two lymphs under breast, but on last scan the two under breast have cleared, I'd like to ask if any of you on paxataxil oy carboplatin have had fuzzy head, I can't explain it but fuzzy slight dizzy head, I'm at day 10, my other cycle I felt so much better by day 10, it's not really bad but just annoying as I can't drive while feeling like this. Again lovely to read all your posts and really hoping your all feeling well, xxx

  • Hey Davia

Of course not, welcome to our group that no ones want to join haha!  I was diagnosed in August so just had my 3rd course on Tuesday.  Not feeling too bad at the moment, fingers crossed it stays that way.  I have 1 more of EC then i go onto the carbo / paxo and paxo weekly.  Hope there are no major side affects of these.  How you doing on these drugs, just the dizzyness.

I have in my lymph nodes too so will have to have all of them out, little worried about the opp but one day at a time eh.  I'm also waiting on my brca test, guess they will send a letter confirming yay or nay.

Yeah i could drive for a few days after my second one, felt like i was on drugs all week!

I managed the cold cap on Tuesday, but hair is thinning quite a bit so not sure if I'll carry on .

    Hugs

    xx

  • Hi if the question was for me ?

i had absolutely no idea I had b/c I went to my doctor with severe pain in lower part of my back he asked me to do a urine sample which he tested right there and said " you blood in you urine " I replied.  No I don't then he showed me with a chart then it went from a ultrasound to a cystoscopy to a Turbt in about a month doctor told me he had cleaned out my bowel in December only for it to return in February with having no treatment of chemotherapy available x

  • Hi Sue

Hope your healing well and pain is manageable xx

Had my results today of pet scan and surgeon said it showed I had a very good response to chemo, and there were no other areas infected, few, that was a long week, but relief now that results are good. Now I just need to get my nutraphyls up before the opp. There still very low, so I'm off to Holland and Barrett for some Immune boosting vitamins.

Mich, hope all went well with oncologist today and your over your cold, I thought of you yesterday when we had a coastal walk along the Lees in Minster, it's a lovely place, first time we've visited.

    Keep well all xxxxx

Mich, how many chemo's have you got left? it's one long journey!

Friday 21st is D-Day for me when I find out if the cancer has spread or if I have clear margins. It's a worrying time and totally out of my hands.

Stay warm, love and strength to you all,

I have my date for surgery, 25th Feb I will have full clearence of lymph nodes in left arm it's going to be a long recovery, I saw breast care nurse today, she gave me leaflet of excersize I need to start doing day after surgery, I am nervous, I've never had major surgery before, but many people have had this op so I'm sure I'll be OK, and I will feel better that the infected lymphs will be out

  • Hey ladies,

Sorry for the delay been a strange week.  Hubbys hernia opp went well so been looking after him. poor guy they said it was quite a large hernia so had to open surgery not keyhole.  He's never had general anesethic so was rather groggy when he came around.  But all good now. I was emotional this week after the steriod low and morbid, urgh was horrible.  But did go for a long walk on my own along the beach and just took it all in.

Chemo done today whoop whoop!  Just 3 more now with combo next week.  I started with a new symtom this week, sore mouth.  Felt like my tongue was on fire!  The nurse has given me some gel solution to use and a rinse for my mouth and i know have Wilko kids tooth paste lol! Guess not too bad its started now with 3 to go!

So glad to hear you are managing ok Claire and lovely your parents are out there with you.

I'll be having full node clearance on my left too.  Random question, if you have full node do they do the lumpactomy / masectomy the same time?

Good you have your date Davia, they seem to be working quite quickly with the opps so hopefully not long for me to wait.  I'll be having my LGFB workshop on that day, so will be thinking of you :)

Linda you managing ok with the side affects?

Hey BelindaJane, let us know how you get on :)

Hugs all around ladies!  Spoil yourself today.

    xxx

  • Hi Ladies,

I had chemo number 4 today which was my 1st Doxetaxol, veins played up but i think its because i didnt drink much this am I had to be there at 8.30 so after a failed cannulation in my right hand the Picc lady came along with her scanner and found a vein in my left arm and hey presto it all went ahead with no reactions, now to see what side effects it will grace me with in the next few days!

Hope you are all doing well xx

  • Had doxetaxol today Mich and feel ok as am full of steroids, hoping its king to me like Fec was, Glad hubbys op went ok x
