Just been diagnosed, BC - triple negative

Hi there,

I joined the group a couple of weeks ago after my scan and biopsy and found it useful and supportive reading what everyone is going through and their advice whilst we all face the C word!

I've now received my diagnosis and plucked up the courage to say 'HI!' :)  I'm still reading up on all the booklets i've received. A strange feeling really counting the days down to your appointment like a holiday without the excited feeling and now coming home with loads of booklets and not holiday brochures.  i feel strange that i have a sense of relief but a strange relief as I do have cancer and not the all clear.  Does anyone else have these mixed feelings?

I've been diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3 and triple negative.  Well from my understanding, i'm waiting for the confirmations to all come in the post.  I remember them saying 18 weeks chemo, 5cm tumour, lymph nodes, masectomy, radiotherapy....

I still feel very detached and like they are talking about someone else as i dont feel ill.  I was hoping to be pregnant :( so feel very sad tonight that is unlikely to happen now with my diagnosis and that i'm 42.

So mixed feelings all around tonight.

  • Hello ladies, hope you don't mind me gatecrashing your thread, but I've just read through it all and it's made me feel so much better, your all so nice and posative

I was diagnosed with triple negative BC in June, I am on my 5 of 8 cycles of chemo, these last four being Carpoplatin and paxataxil, there breaking down the paxataxil to every week, i have my last chemo on 6th January and although we shouldn't wish our lives away, I can't wait, after that it will be surgery and radiotherapy, I have three lymph nodes under my arm and two lymphs under breast, but on last scan the two under breast have cleared, I'd like to ask if any of you on paxataxil oy carboplatin have had fuzzy head, I can't explain it but fuzzy slight dizzy head, I'm at day 10, my other cycle I felt so much better by day 10, it's not really bad but just annoying as I can't drive while feeling like this. Again lovely to read all your posts and really hoping your all feeling well, xxx

  • Hey Davia

Of course not, welcome to our group that no ones want to join haha!  I was diagnosed in August so just had my 3rd course on Tuesday.  Not feeling too bad at the moment, fingers crossed it stays that way.  I have 1 more of EC then i go onto the carbo / paxo and paxo weekly.  Hope there are no major side affects of these.  How you doing on these drugs, just the dizzyness.

I have in my lymph nodes too so will have to have all of them out, little worried about the opp but one day at a time eh.  I'm also waiting on my brca test, guess they will send a letter confirming yay or nay.

Yeah i could drive for a few days after my second one, felt like i was on drugs all week!

I managed the cold cap on Tuesday, but hair is thinning quite a bit so not sure if I'll carry on .

    Hugs

    xx

  • Hi Mich, Well done for getting out and walking, Im normally the one who is told to slow down when walking anywhere so having to slow down is hard and I never took naps in the day, but need them now,

I'm the opposite of constipated lol I've had to stop eating melon, my favourite fruit in fact I've cut fruit out altogether and that's helped, maybe try melon, hope you get moving soon lol

I've got my combo on Monday, not looking forward to that, oh my oncologist has decided to give me two white cell boosting injections a week, I asked why there not given on this regime and its because we're having paxol weekly and there's no time to bring bloods back to normal before next dose, but my white cells have not picked up, they have been a problem all through chemo, I will inject  Wednesday & Thursday, but Dr was pleased I'm not enimic, apparently that's common to, I was angry with my body, I felt it was weak and feeble even though I have always eaten healthy and was out most nights ringing church bells, ( a hobby I miss as can't ring with picc line in) , but you never know how your body is going to react, Wednesday I had to go A&E as my heart was beating really fast and missing a beat, I got there and my heart rate was 150 pm,tacacardia, they did bloods, put me on introvenouse antibiotics and did two ECGs heart calmed down and the cause is ANXIETY, joy, I've never suffered from anxiety it's gross but I'm glad it's not my heart,

Hope your pree assessment goes well and your able to have  Tuesdays paxo, your doing so well, getting out walking, at least we can see the light at the end of chemo tunnel, keep well xxx ️

  • Hi Lindyluu

Yes it is very scary, I keep telling myself, it's been tried and tested many times and the oncologist and team really look after you, I to had mixed emotions on my first infusion, you really want to start it but like you say it's scary going into the unknown, but it's doable,

Wish you all the best for tomorrow, take it in little steps you'll get there, let us know how it goes xx

  • Hi Davia

I think its because i'm focused on the side effects if i'm honest even though my husband keeps teling me not to lol

I'm sure i'll be fine once i'm up and running, i'll let you know how I get on.

  • Hey Davia

Ha ha thanks, I'll try melon.  I'll be making a smoothie tomorrow ;)

Aww sounds like you've had a hectic week, sorry to hear that.  Yeah i was wandering why we dont get those pesky injections and now i know why.  My treatment dates are also changing in january so my pre assessment and treatment are further apart, i guess to give our body as much time as possible to recover.

The racing heart beat must of been very scary, how you feeling now? Hopefully all ok. I'm feeling a bit better now i'm sitting still and err less drunk. I'm still furniture walking around the house.  Hubby says maybe we can go for breakfast after pre-assessment tomorrow, hmm lets see if manage not to knock anything over lol!

Ringing churchbells, no thats one way to get rid of bingo wings!  I've noticed my fitness levels have changed as i dont nearly walk as much as i used to commuting to london.  I know nothing major in the grand scheme of things, just something we have to deal with and get our selves better eh :)

Welcome to our group Linda :)

Sorry to hear your mum has been through it too, glad to hear your family has been supportive it does help.  Feel free to rant or chat to us here if you need anything.  I find some of my friends tell me to be positive all the time, which was hard when i had a morbid phase 2 weeks ago.  Which was hard but i got through it and then reaslied us ladies were all going through it.  You'll get through to the other side and remember its ok to have off days, we are all human and strong to be dealing with this.

I'm also waiting for my results of the BRCA gene, Sue has hers and she is negative, so that is good :)

Enjoy rest of your evening ladies.

    xx

  • Hi Ladies,

Welcome to our group Linda , I'm sorry you have had to join but we will all support you. I think we all had the same feelings when we were first dx and we all still have our wobbles now but what we are all going through is huge and unless you have been there yoursef, it's hard to undstand the rollercoster of emotions. I had Taxol yesterday and my last one will be on 27th if all goes well. As Mich said, I tested negative for the BRCA gene and the wait was the worst part as I has I had a 50% chance of having it.

Feel free to ask us any questions as we are all further along our treatment plan and will do out best to reassure you.

Mich, I too felel dizzy and hold on railings in the shops, I'm sure people think I'm drunk. At least you will be finished chemo in January so that's something.

Davia, you have been through the ringer by the sounds of it. Hopefully, you are over the worst of it. it's scarry leaving our fate in others hands but I keep telling myself, they are the experts.

My injections start on Sunday and that's when I feel rubbish!!!

    Love to you all,

    Sue

  • Hey ladies,

    Welcome Linda :)

How you getting on with yours now Sue?  Not long now until your last one :)  Davia, you managing ok?

I'm not looking forward to my xmas eve one as its only at 1400 and it tends to take a few hours, boo.  but hey if i get to feel like today then Christmas wont be so bad eh ;)

I've done some more online shopping, oops!  Now just to wrap all the pressies.

    Hugs all around

    xx

  • Sue, I've just seen you are having those pesky injections still, boo.  Are they the same nutrphils that you take for 5 days.  If they are the nurse suggested i take paracetomol and anti histamine before hand as it helps with with bone pain.  Not sure if they had already told you.  They sure did play havoc with my body and it helped.

  • Hi Mich,

I'm glad you are feeling better this time round. The Taxol doesn't agree with me at all. Yep, that's the injections. I do take anti histamine tablets as I get a nasty rash. Not sue if it's the chemo causing it or the injections. I usually start to feel a bit better once the injections finish.

I found myself crying this morning, not too sure what brought it on but I am pulling myself together. Iv'e got an Oncology appointment on 24th so hopefully I will get a date to see the surgeon.

How is everyone else doing? Keep in touch Ladies.

    Love to you all,

    Sue xxx

  • Hi all, sorry for the radio silence. I keep putting off replying so that I can take my time and so personals but I've given up.

These injections you're all talking about, are they the white cell boosters? Could they be making me feel even more tired?

Sue, after all we're going through I think it's fine to have the occasional cry!!

I had a bunch of additional heart tests and they can't find any reason for the reduced function so it's probably just how I am. They've switched me from adriamycin to something in the same group but less toxic to the heart and I have to have an echo between each treatment. Two down and two to go, not it's getting close to the end I'm desperate for it to finish! Even though I haven't had a bad time really. I'm definitely more tired and more emotional on the ec chemo but otherwise not bad at all.

Mich, rubbish to have one on Christmas Eve :( Although as you say at least you should feel ok on Christmas Day.

welcome to the *** club Lindy. I've found the chemo much easier than I was expecting so hopefully you will too x

Hey Davia. Sorry, can't scroll back far enough on my phone to see your last update!

oh the other thing that happened last week was my one year old got ambulanced to hospital when I got home from my chemo! That was fun. Turned out he had bronchitis and was admitted for 2 days. I don't think he was in danger as such but we were at the doctors and no cars are allowed where I live so I think ambulance was just the best way to get there quickly. We had to transfer to a private hospital as my white count was quite low that day and I didn't want to be on a ward with various infectious children! So two nicghts sleeping on the couch in his hospital room hasn't really helped my general tiredness.

    Love to you all.

    claire xx

  • Hey Sue,

Aww sorry to hear its playing havoc with you. Just shows how we all react differently to these cocktails! Well I say cocktails as I read the side affects of Taxol yesterday and it contains alcohol and warns you may be over your limit so not do drive! Ha ha did make me smile

I seem to be OK today, well apart from waking up at 0330! The cats were well freaked when I was in the kitchen at 5am rearranging baking tins and teapots on my side, mundane tasks. That's after I viewed random u tube videos in a zombie state!

I did notice with the taxol they give you more pre meds, than I had with the ec.

Hope u feel better later Sue, a walk does me good when I'm all teary, put on a big wooly hat and coat and wander!

    Hugs xx
