endrometrial cancer and hysterectomy and brachytherapy

Hello everyone. I was diagnosed with cancer of the womb and had a hysterectomy in May 2019.  I was told that I had cancer of the endometrium and had a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy which included the ovaries and fallopian tubes. A few weeks ago I had a course of postoperative vaginal vault brachytherapy.  The side effects of this includes tiredness, urinary and bowel problems etc.   I still have to have my follow up appointment in September. I would be happy to help anyone, if I can, who is starting on this journey.

  • Hi Anniie,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about what you've been going through recently but glad to hear the surgeries were successful, and I hope everything goes OK at your follow up appointment.

Thank you for your offer to help others going through something similar - it's always so helpful for other people to hear experiences from people who have been through or are going through similar situations.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi

Me too. I had the same journey as you. My second follow up appt is next week. The only difference in our experiences is that after the hysterectomy my histology results upgraded the cancer from 1 to 3 and I had a second op to remove lymph nodes for testing. Fortunately they were clear so I had brachytherapy as you did. I hope your first follow up appt turns out well.

I too will answer any questions people have.

  • Hi Annie, Im new to this but saw your post and wonder if you could share your experience with me.. I had radical hysterectomy in Jan 2020 stage 2 grade 3, had one chemotherapy which was stopped.  Now suggesting 25 radiotherapies and 3 brachytherapies but I am so worried about side effect especially long term, how have you been?  Thank you.
