Abnormal cells

Hi all,

I'm 32 and have just recently had my first smear....I know stupid I should of had it done years ago but have always been to scared. Finally plucked up the courage and had my results today and have high grade (moderate) dyskaryosis.

Currently waiting for a colposcopy, and I'm literally terrified any advise will be much appreciated

  • Hi,

I had my very first smear at the end of last year and my results came back with abnormalities. I wasnt even 25 at the time so the nurse wasn’t going to do it so she phoned the place that sent me the letter and they said it was ok because I was 24years and 10 months. When I received the letter I cried for days I was so scared, I never stopped googling took a week sick off work the worst things were just going through my head. When I went for the colposcopy the nurses and doctors were lovely, turns out I had high grade abnormalities and they were on a large section of my cervix. I had them lazared off, was abit uncomftable But nothing extremely painful. The doctor was very positive on how it went. I received a letter about a week later telling me that they had got them all and my second smear confirmed It and I’m not due to go back for another smear now for 5 years.

speak to people around you let them know what your feeling it can be such a stressful, scary time but that’s the amazing thing about smears they are there to save our lives. I never spoke to anybody how I was feeling until after it and there is so many woman who have abnormalities that have been picked up by smear tests and so many have turned out ok. I’m not going to say don’t worry because you will but try and stay positive you’ve made the amazing first step of going for your smear and that’s the reason why they are there to stop the abnormalities changing.

Sending you all the luck in the world ️
