Anxiously waiting for Gynae tests

Hi it's really helped looking on here recently. I have had an internal pelvic scan which showed up some bleeding cysts on my ovary followed by an abnormal blood test. My doctor phoned to say he was making an urgent referral to gynae. I vaguely remember him talking about tumour markers? But when he said "it's not necessarily cancer but...." Time has stood still & I'm terrified. This was only 3 days ago & I hope I haven't got long to wait. I suppose I'm just crying out for some supportive words from people who have been there.

  • Hi Ali and welcome to the forum.

It can be a bit scary when the 'C' word is mentioned but I hope this information we have about urgent referrals helps make it less so.

Our members know how tough it can be waiting for tests so hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support.

Wishing you all the best with your next appointment Ali.

    Kind regards,

  • Thankyou. Still no appointment in the post so another long day. Trying to stay calm.

  • Hi AliH

An urgent referral should mean you get an appointment within 2 weeks, so hopefully not long to wait for it now. Try not to let your mind go to any worst case scenarios at this stage, and I would strongly recommend that you stay off Dr Google. The waiting is awful, I know, but someone said to me there’s no point in worrying till there’s something to worry about. Let us know how you get on, and meanwhile there are lots of helpful and supportive people on here if you want to come and talk.xx

  • Thankyou so much. The doctor has been in touch to reassure me the referral has gone through so should be any time now. Im afraid I learnt my lesson the hard way with Dr Google so busying myself in other ways channelling my inner Mary Berry with lots of baking. Trying so hard not to worry, Thankyou for the support xx

  • Hi AliH

Thats good-you’ll be seen quickly and get sorted out. I never did the Dr Google thing-too scared! but I know it can drive people crazy with worry and awful scenarios. Much better to focus on keeping distracted, and baking sounds like a perfect way to do that! It’s impossible not to worry, but try to keep that in perspective. Allow yourself a little time for worry, but keep your days filled with other stuff while you wait for your appointment. xx

  • Thankyou. Luckily we're on the summer hols so don't have to worry about work for a while so fun stuff it is xx
