Borderline abnormal cells- Smear result

Hi, I know this has probably  been asked/discussed before but I recently had my letter back from my smear. It said i had borderline changes and positive for HPV. Im very anxious about the results of the colppscopy (not the colposcopy itself). Not sure what I'm looking for really....maybe someone going through something similar? Thanks.

  • Hi Kate

Borderline changes are not cancer, and abnormal cells can be removed in a straightforward procedure. Your colposcopy will enable the area of abnormal cells to be identified for removal. Being HPV positive is extremely common for many people and doesn’t mean you will automatically get cancer...you will need to have the abnormal cells treated and hopefully that will be all you need and you will just be monitored in the future. Hope this helps to make you a little less anxious! xx
