Postmenopausal bleeding

Ok....Hi all....new here.  Slightly worried about some bleeding as I am through menopause with an FSH of 42 and no period for over 20years.  Ive had a mirena coil in for over 8 years and want it out as it is due....

went to docs for a completely unrelated issue but when i mentioned the bleed she kinda went into auto  mode and I've had a whole lot of tests....am I to be worried?  I've done some research and I don't want to think the worst....but it all sounds so bad.

I am 52 slim with no health issues. Have a gyny app on 12th August.  Scan showed 2 cysts one on each ovary and examination said inflamed. I have the coil still so radiography could not really check properly she said.

Can someone here shed some light please.....x

  • Hi

I'm 54 and 18months without a period, Then I had a bit of blood followed by a 10 day propper period.

I had a ct after bowel cancer surgery which showed a thicker than usual womb lining. I've had an ultrasound, biopsies taken which were normal and I have to go in to be put to sleep for camera to have a look around.

My gp told me today that this is common and they send everyone post menopause with bleeding to be checked and more than 96% will not have anything serious.

Good luck hope you get sorted soon.

  • Hi and thanks for putting my mind at ease....

Hope we in the 96%.  Let me know how you do as seems you are far more head than I am.  Hope yr exploratory surgery goes well.

  • Hi Curlygal

Doctors tend to act quickly in any case of post menopausal bleeding. I got an appointment the next day for example. It doesn’t mean to say it’s anything serious, there can be several reasons for it.

I will hope you are in the large percentage for whom there is nothing majorly wrong! Best to get it seen to though. xx
