Worrying myself sick

Hi

I'm an early 30s female, generally fit and healthy but I've had a white patch in front of my tonsil for several months now, which has grown and changed shape. It's been very painful, gets more painful when I speak, and I've had near-constant ear pain the whole time and recently my ear on that side has started ringing on and off. I've been to my GP countless times and they initially insisted they couldn't see what I was talking about, but then about 2 weeks ago, she did see it and all of a sudden seemed worried, asked me about smoking and history of skin cancer (no to both) I've been referred for an urgent ENT appointment which is coming up next week, and I'm just dreading it. I can't seem to concentrate on anything else. Anyone have any advice on how to get past constantly thinking about the appointment?

Thanks for your time x

  • Hi Mazmac and welcome to the forum.

Keeping busy and distracting yourself with mental or physical tasks has helped some of our members take their mind off thinking about their appointments but I'm sure some of them will be along soon to share other tips and advice they may have for keeping the thought train at bay.

The word urgent can seem scary but I hope the information we have on our website about urgent referrals will help make it less so.

Wishing you all the best for next week Mazmac.

    Kind regards,
