Lump in neck ultrasound results

Hi,

I'm knew to this forum but would like a little advice please.

9 weeks ago I found a lump in my neck on the right side near my collarbone, Dr did blood tests all OK but as the lump had gotten slighter bigger & wasn't going away she sent me for an ultrasound on the 2 week appointment scheme.

I was worried as I have been really tired & the last week have been so itchy on the top half of my body.

Both the Dr & consultant said it was a swollen lymph node & the scan would tell us more.

I had the scan today & the person scanning has said there is no lump & it is my muscle & he doesn't know why it feels raised & it will never go away, he said it feels stringy & not like a lump & there's nothing sinister in my neck, he didn't see a lymph node. Obviously this was very good news for me but I'm a little confused as there is a definate lump the size of a grape behind my collarbone that sometimes can be seen sticking out (friends & family have felt it & said its quite large) ? It felt like he looked where the lump was & he checked my neck (lump isn't on my neck really) but he said i have a similar muscle when he checked the other side but there is no lump or raised anything that side?

Do I just accept that I'll have this lump forever? I've never heard of a muscle feeling like a swollen lymph node?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Hayleigh,

I noticed you hadn't had a reply yet so I just wanted to stop by to welcome you to the forum and let you know your post has been read.

As you've said, that's great news you've been given but if you're not 100% happy you could talk things through with your doctor once the results have come back and see what they say. You could also try seeking a second opinion from another doctor if you have more than one at your GP surgery.

Our members know the doubt that can play on the mind when good news has been given so hopefully you'll receive some words of support from them soon.

    Kind regards,
