Referred to breast clinic

Hello.

New to posting here. I’m 42 and saw the dr today about a lump in my breast I found 6 days ago. He said it feels like it moves and that although no lumps under arms or visible issues with skin or nipples it would be good just to get it checked. There also no known history in my family. We have private health care through my husbands job so I’m hoping an appointment will come through soon as we go on holiday in a week and I know it’s ‘within a two week’ period they get you seen.

I left the docs feeling like he was just being safe and I was simply going to have a bit of a boob MOT just to be sure. But now I’m home and thinking about it I’m really scared. I’ve been reading online about what to expect at the clinic. He said they would receive the referral letter tomorrow (and he’s emailed me a copy) and that I should phone tomorrow afternoon to speak to them about trying for an appointment before I go away.

thank you for reading. I haven’t told my husband yet.

  • Hi Kerry - sorry you're so worried - I know it's a horrid feeling but I do think your first instincts were more than likely the right ones i.e. the doctor was just being safe. Do try not to panic - I honestly can't see a reason at this stage why you need to. I had a cancer scare a few weeks ago & was referred to the 2 week cancer pathway. All came back ok & my GP said that 9 out of 10 patients referred in this way come back clear. Even if there is a problem the chances are it will be something that can easdily be sorted.

Keep busy 'til your appt. & look at it like this - if/when all is well you'll have got yourself in a pickle for no good reason & if (IF) there's a problem, it's best to know & get it sorted.

All the best - let us know how you get on.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I’m so glad you got your results and all was okay. Today has been busy and is ending well, I phoned the clinic to check and they’d received my referral and they said they had booked me in for the 31st which was ideal as I go away start of August but I mentioned I would be available for short notice cancellations so was it worth me calling again just in case and to my amazement there had been a cancellation afternoon so I jumped in a cab a grabbed it!

Going on my own was scary but there was just no time to arrange company,  but everyone was incredibly nice and kind and I’m relieved (and feeling very lucky) to say everything is ok.

Ive been very lucky to get to see someone so fast but I would recommend people call about cancellations if they are able to make a short notice appointment. It’s much better to fill that appointment than leave it empty and I hope what would have been my appointment next week is now one someone else can benefit from to get their checkup done quicker.

So pleased again for you.i can understand the relief. Thank you again for replying, I really appreciate you sharing your story.

    Wishing you love and health

    xx
