Cold & Cough During Chemotherapy

Good Morning

I had my 3rd cycle of chemotherapy last Wednesday and by the Friday I had a sore throat followed by a very annoying cough and cold. My temperature has been fine and was advised by my cancer team to take paracetamol. I don’t think this cold is shifting as quick as it should, I am drinking plenty and eating well, I’m getting horrendous night sweats very similar to the menopause but I’ve read that’s quite a common side affect. I’m going to call my GP this morning but if anyone has any other advice I would be most grateful.

Thank you

  • Hi Duffers,

Sorrry to hear that you've been struggling with a cough and cold whilst dealing with chemo too.

How are you feeling now? Did you manage to speak to your GP? Hopefully they have been able to give you some advice and support.

Let us know how you're doing when you feel well enough.

    Sending best wishes,

  • Hi Jen

Thank you, I got the all clear from the GP, no infection, no temperature and lungs clear, just a common cold which she said will pass. If anything changes I’ve to let her know. It’s still lingering but this morning I’m feeling a bit better. Still coughing a bit and still blowing my nose a bit but not as much.

It has certainly hampered my recovery this time. I’m drinking plenty of fluids and eating well as have throughout my 3 cycles so far.

I’ve been quite frustrated and emotional this week which is not like me really as I’ve been so upbeat so far.

I’ve been told by so many of my followers on my social media that I’m an inspiration to them so that helps me on a daily basis.

    Thank you for your message.
