HVP and high grade (moderate) dyskaryosis

I have recently had a smear test and the results have come back as.. HVP and high grade (moderate) dyskaryosis

does this mean there is a high chance I have cervical cancer??

  • Hi Lauren123456,

Around 6 out of 100 women (6%) have an abnormal result after a cervical screening test. It means that there are some changes to the cells on the cervix. These changes are not cancer. The cells often go back to normal by themselves. But in some women, if not treated, these changes could develop into cancer in the future.

Now that your results have come back you will be offered an appointment at the colposcopy clinic. This is to have a closer look at your cervix.

The doctor or specialist nurse takes a sample of cells (a biopsy) from the abnormal area. They may ask you to go back for treatment depending on the result of the biopsy. Or in some clinics, they may offer you treatment at the same time as the colposcopy.

You usually only need treatment once. Then you have follow up tests to check that the treatment has worked.

You can read more about cervical screening results on our website here

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi,

sorry to hear you had similar results to mine (I know exactly how you're feeling) I felt sick waiting.

So my cells were high risk - I had the cells removed by LLETz treatment on the same day I had the colposcopy . I have not had any bleeding between periods since and bipopsy was taken on the day. Thankfully the sample take came back with no signs of cancer. I will need another smear next month (feeling very nervous incase the cells have returned)!

Sadly I did get an infection after the treatment and ended up in hospital!

I hope everything goes okay for you.....

if you have anymore questions, feel free to message

  • Thankyou so much Lauren you have really eased my anxiety.

i don't think there is enough out there to prepare you for an abnormal result my mind went into overdrive I can't eat or sleep at night.

Yes I had my lletz the same day and ended up fainting through out it I think it's because I'd built my self up so much and basically telling myself they will butcher me haha it's wasn't bad at all though.

Fingers crosses for your next test

    thankyou again x

  • Hi Lauren

I have got my colposcopy on Friday and also was high hpv and high (moderate) cell changes. Could you tell me how you found the lletz please? I'm absolutely petrified of all things hospitals and injections etc etc so really hoping that the lletz won't be too bad if I do need it.

    Thanks
