Long Biopsy Wait

Hi

I had a laparoscopy to remove a 5.5cm complex ovarian cyst 8 weeks ago. I hadn't had any results back despite phoning the doctor regularly. I contacted the hospital who said I should have been given my results at a follow up appointment. I explained I had had emergency surgery and had never been given a follow up appointment from the hospital. I was niave in thinking that no news was good news and if something was wrong the would contact me quickly. The hospital said with the gyno ward closing and moving then there must have been a mix up and they would come back to me. They called back and said that the biopsy hadn't been done and should be done within 2 weeks (10 weeks after the op).

I have been having a lot of pain similar to when I first had to go to hospital with the cyst. I am worried that I have been left and something sinister has been left untreated.

Has anyone else been left for 10 weeks for a biopsy to be done? Is this normal? Many Thanks

  • Hi Km8218,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. This sounds like a frustrating situation - the waiting and uncertainty is always incredibly difficult.

While I can't advise on how common or not this situation is, the main thing I can suggest is to try not to worry about anything negative as a result of the extra waiting time. A few extra weeks will likely not have affected things. Keep following up with the hospital as it's important that you get answers, and then once you do you'll have a path forward and next steps.

I hope you don't have too much longer to wait. Meanwhile do let us know how you get on, if you would like to - this forum is a welcoming community and you'll find support here.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
