Low grade dyskaryosis

Hi I am 63 had my final smear in March results didn’t come through until early June. Received letter saying they found low grade abnormal cells. Wasn’t tested for HPV. Have an appointment to attend colposcopy. I read that if you have low grade abnormal cells and no HPV virus you would not need colposcopy appt. Do I have to go because The lab didn’t test for HPV?

Also should I be concerned, have always attended for smear tests and this is the first one to come back abnormal.

Typical as was told it would be my last.

Hi there - I'm sorry I can't give advice on your symptoms etc. but I can say that I think it is important that you have whatever tests are recommended. There's every chance that it's nothing but unless you have the test you won't know & you'll just worry yourself silly. I've recently had some tests for cancer & all came back clear & with only 1 to go I first thought I wouldn't bother with it. On reflections it's silly not to so I'm going for it.
If there is a problem & it's a big IF better to sort it out sooner rather than later.

Hi Ali
My understanding of abnormal cells(I have cervical cancer) is that if you have them, then you will have the hpv virus. Abnormal cells are pre cancerous, and if I were you I would attend the colposcopy where they will be able to look at your cervix and give you any treatment needed. That should be able to get rid of them.xx
