Just found out....

Good morning everyone,

I have come here to seek some support as I am completely petrified.

Ive had what the doctors thought was a benign ovarian dermoid cyst but has turned out to be a cancer.

I have been told that it’s a 1C cancer and I need to have a scan and then my plan will be put together.

I have spent my life fearing something like this happening-very anxious person-and now it’s here and I am terrified. I’m 37 and have a teenage child.

My family are upset but trying to be positive but I am freaking out and falling apart.

Please help?

Kindest,

J

  • I’m so sorry to hear your news! Hopefully being early stages you’ll make a full recovery soon!

Can i I ask what your symptoms were? I’m in more pain every day waiting for my scan is awful.

    Much love xx

  • Bea are you still here? It’s showing as anonymous?

  • Hi Joanne3146,  thank you for your well wishes!  Looking back, I think my early symptoms were fatigue and forgetfulness.  I then noticed that I’d picked up a bit of weight in my stomach area.  Didn’t give it too much thought at that stage, until I realised that my stomach was a strange shape in the mornings & by the end of the working day I would feel uncomfortably bloated.  Something felt swollen under my bellybutton.  I went to see my GP & she referred me for an untrasound and arranged a CA125 blood test, which came in at 94. The ultrasound detected a large mass, which a CT scan later indicated was a complex ovarian cyst.  The CT scan didn’t show any indications of cancer but tests on the cyst after surgical removal found cancerous cells. I didn’t have much pain, it was more just a really uncomfortable feeling of bloatedness.  I permanently felt like I’d just eaten a huge meal.

Waiting for the scans and results is awful so I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer and that your results all come up clear.  If not, we’re here if you need to talk.

Much love to you also xx

  • Thank you so much for sharing!

Do they always remove cysts? I’ve had pcos and they never really said I could do anything about it

    what are your next steps?

The past two months I’ve been exhausted. Really just no energy at any point in the day and it would show, I was always good at hiding any tiredness. My stomach is getting bigger feels like I’m literally full of food so I’m rarely hungry and when I do eat I can’t eat much at all! Went to a festival on Friday and I had to switch to water as I had a few vodka lemonades and the lemonade made me swell more to the point my belly was solid and I really thought it would burst! I’m constantly feeling crampy like I’m on my period did you have that? I can also feel pain in my ovaries like ovulation pains all the time. Lower back pain and there’s pain under my right rib cage. I have a feeling nothing will be there and I’ll be left with no answers. I have post coitial bleeding and pain too so something is going on. I usually get bloated by the evening and by morning it’s gone but it’s just there all the time now and that’s just got me so worried

sorry to rant I don’t talk to anyone at home about this

    xx

  • Oh and I’ve been extra forgetful too and doing silly things like putting my phone in the microwave rather than the bowl of porridge :|

i also end up texting a random word rather than the one I wanted to type which is really strange

  • Sounds like you’ve really been having a difficult time over the past couple of months.  A lot of your symptoms do sound similar to mine, especially the bloating and tiredness.  Fizzy drinks definitely didn’t help... I had a Barocca C one morning and felt the same way you described after your vodka lemonades.  I’ve found that at times I struggle to remember the word for things - I just draw a complete blank.  I didn’t feel crampy very often though.

I think that these symptoms can also be caused by benign cysts (maybe endometriosis too) so please don’t think that it’s definitely something sinister.

My understanding is that cysts are only removed if they are big or causing problems.  If cancer is suspected, a hysterectomy is often recommended.  The next step for me is likely to be a hysterectomy and possibly chemo, but I’ll find out for sure at my next consultant appointment.

Do you have any idea when your scan might be or are you still waiting for your appointment letter?

    S x

  • It’s this Tuesday I’m so nervous :(

ive also lost feeling at the top of my left leg which is strange :(

so so sorry to hear you’ll need a hysterectomy :( my aunt has started her chemo this week to kill the cancer cells that have reached her stomach, then she will have her operation and then some more chemo. Her stomach bloat is huge bless her :(

im hoping they’ll tell me if they see anything on my scan I’ll go out of my mind if they don’t. I’m barely sleeping as it is

  • Hi Joanne,

I'm not one to those people trying to diagnose you. I am totally not a doctor but a lot of your symptoms fit the pattern of endometriosis / endometriomal cyst which I have (7cm) and awaiting laparoscopy for removal. I was first diagnosed wrongly with PCOS but the pains were too severe for me to just 'get on with it' so I pushed for an ultrasound and then a large cyst was found near left ovary and after an MRI, an endometriomal cyst was diagnosed. All the symptoms you've described on here fit an endo pattern BUT again I am not a doctor, I would just hate for you, like so many women do, to either be living with a misdiagnosis / not informed enough to push for tests. I may be totally wrong but couldn't not message you. Best of luck!

  • Thank you so much for your reply! It’s very helpful to hear personal experience! I’m hoping that’s what it is rather than the worser option! I just want some answers :(

  • I’m also waiting for colposcopy appointment to come through so I’m hoping they’ll be very thorough!
