Sorry that you find yourself in this position, I can imagine how worried you will be. However the GP has done the right thing by referring you to the breast clinic, if, and that’s a big IF, it is a very small tumour then you have caught it early. If it’s not cancer then you will be in a fortunate position to have had your breasts examined by professionals and know your mind will be a rest for years to come.

waiting 2-3 weeks is the standard time I’m afraid and it’s a difficult wait, I can only advise that you try and keep yourself busy, don’t use Dr Google and push negative thoughts away. Easier said than done I know  but the GP didn’t say she thought it was cancer and it’s not cancer until they say it is.

there are loads of us breast women on here so hopefully others will be along to offer their experience and advice.

Hi I was in your position just a few weeks ago, I found a lump in my left breast on my 37th Birthday, I went straight to my GP they referred me and said i would be seen within 2 weeks! I was worried sick, couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, just couldn’t function properly. 

My GP told me that 8 out of 10 lumps are not cancerous, so try staying positive, easier said than done I know . I drove myself mad going on google all the time, so try your hardest to stay clear! It is a positive sign that it wasn’t there last week.

I really don’t know what to say that will help, everyday will feel like a life time. I definitely think talking helps. If I can answer any question you have please let me know

My lump was cancer, so not what I wanted to hear but it was grade 1 and only 9mm. So the best news in this situation. 

I have young children and all I could think about before been diagnosed was how will I tell them and how will they deal with it! In my head I was already planning my funeral, I would brush my daughters hair and cry, thinking if I wasn’t  around who would do this for her, everything went through my head and it was always the worst case scenario!

I’ve just had my op, I decided that I wouldn’t tell the children I have cancer as they are only 8 so I just told them I needed an operation to make me better. Children are a lot more resilient than we are though so I’m sure they would of handled it and probably better than me!  

Just because my lump was cancer, it doesn’t mean yours is, so please don’t read this and think the worst. I’ve got everything crossed for you

Hello Mavis - such a worry for you I know. I've spent the past week absolutely convinced I had cancer & my GP was also concerned & sent me immediately for a number of tests. I've had most of the results today & I'm fine apart from one final test which my GP is not worried about. So, the chances are you are worrying unnecessarily - 9 out of 10 people sent for testing come back clear!! 9 out of 10!!!!!!!

I know from the past week just how easy it is to fear the worst but the worst is very unlikely even so I DO understand how you are feeling.

Try to concentrate on your normal routine/activities & not the worst. Thinking negatively is really very counter-productive when the chances are you will be fine. Don't do what I did i.e. wasting an entire week of your life feeling awful. If there is anything to worry about when the tests are done then that's the time to really worry. Easier said than done I know but please do your best to try.

You'll get plenty of support here so do keep posting if you feel you need to but concentrate on the positive stuff you'll find & not the sadder stories.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Keep your chin up dear - one way or another things do have a way of working out.

hi I wish you luck should not be 3 weeks though I had a 2 cm lump which turned out to be cancer my doctor said I will inform hospital if you don’t hear from them in a week I had to get back to her 7 days I got appoitment got test waited 3 weeks for operation this time all different tests done but have to wait 7/14 days I’m thinking well if really bad phone me earlier I would get back to your doctor saying there’s a 24 hour clinic u get appointment tests done wait 3 hours then given result I wish you well you should not wait 3 weeks good luck
