Suspected stomach cancer

Hi there, I'm not sure what response I'm looking for here but my husbands Nan has suspected stomach cancer. She is too fragile to undergo any testing.

She's eating a few spoon fulls of food with help per day with the odd sip of water. She is just over 4 stone and sleeps constantly because she says she feels endlessly tired. She has a burn in her throat when swallowing  anything  and belches a lot too. She's entirely bed bound now and feels sick and dizzy all the time. She weighs 4 stone and I'd describe her as a geriatric anorexic.

What help can she receive and is there anything else we can do to make her comfortable as she seems disoriented a lot of the time...

  • Hi Cam93iom

I'm sorry tohear about your husbands Nan. It's obviously a difficult time for you all.

You haven't mentioned if she's being cared for at home or hospital or if she's in residential care. If she's at home does she have any contact with your local district nursing team? Although she is too unwell for any tests to be undertaken that doesn't mean that someone isn't able to put care into place to keep her comfortable through this illness. If Nan is at home and doesn't have nursing support do get in touch with her GP. If there is a nursing team already involved with Nan's care then have a chat with them and ask what is being done to keep her comfortable and what will the plan be as things progress.

If you feel it would be helpful to speak to any of our nurses for advice and support then please do give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
