Scared & trying to stay positive

Hi everyone,

I’m a 43 year mum & I’m trying to stay calm but inside I’m so scared.

Went to my GP with cough that hadn’t cleared up & sounded my chest which was clear and sent for a chest X-ray, said if anything showed up they would contact me. Got a phone call around 10 days later & doctor said right lung looked cloudy & was given antibiotics and to have chest X-ray repeated in 4 weeks.  Second X-ray results yesterday, inconclusive & now being sent to respiratory clinic. I’m so scared as my right shoulder, right side of my neck & back have been so sore the last few weeks, which I have put down to walking the dog and maybe him pulling on the lead, but now I have seen this is a symptom of lung cancer. I have no longer a cough but a little mucus in the morning which is sometimes a kinda green colour, no blood & no weight loss or extreme tiredness. I’m terrified... just had to write it down somewhere x

  • Hi Les18,

Welcome to Cancer Chat, although I'm sorry to read about what has brought you here. It's definitely important sometimes to talk about or to write down your worries, it can be cathartic and helpful in terms of processing feelings. So for that reason I hope you find this forum useful - it's a safe and welcoming space to talk about your worries.

The main thing is that the doctors are looking into your symptoms, and hopefully you will have some answers soon. Any uncertainty is always difficult, but at least once you have the answers you will have a path forward one way or the other.

In the meantime try not to dwell on negative thoughts too much, although I know this is easier said than done. Also try to avoid any online searching about symptoms - it's always best to instead focus on the doctors' advice and guidance.

Do keep us posted with how you get on, if you would like to of course.

    Wishing you all the best.

    Ben
