Ovarian Cyst

I have a cyst on my ovary, been going back and fore recently having tests and scans. Had scan 3 months after first scan and cyst still there. Radiographer said that there was a septation on the cyst. Saw gyneacologist 2 weeks ago who said that he thought it was a simple cyst and not to be concerned. Then had phone call from his secretary today to say that my case went to a board meeting and they’ve decided to take some further steps! Asked me to consider a full hysterectomy! I have an appointment in 10 days to talk this through! I don’t know how to feel? 

I have 12 year old twins through IVF and don’t plan on having anymore! I’m 38! My auntie and great grandmother both had ovarian cancer.

    Hi Molly, I'm so sorry to hear about your situation.  I understand how you feel right now as I've just received a similar diagnosis.  I have a complex ovarian cyst, which the doctors do not believe to be cancerous (but they can't be certain until it's removed & tested).  I'm 42 with no kids, no history of ovarian cancer in my family, and have been advised to have a full hysterectomy.  It seems so extreme. 

    Hopefully your discussion with the gynae will explain the reasoning behind their recomendation so you can make an informed decision.  The only reason I was given is that if they remove the cyst & it is cancerous, they would need to do another operation to remove the womb etc.  I'm obtaining a second opinion to give me peace of mind that a hysterctomy is the best option.

    10 days will feel like a long wait but have a list of questions ready for your gynae as the mind tends to go blank during these appointments.

    Not sure if you will see this post as just realised it was back in 2019! Just wondered if you had any feedback from a second opinion? I am 29 and going through a similar situation. They thought it was a simple cyst originally but now they think it may be more complicated but didn't go in to too much detail! Met with a consultant today who was very set on a hysterectomy but like you, I feel like this seems very extreme. I know it's worst case scenario but I am terrified as I do not have any children but was definitely planning to in the future.
