Indecisive....

Hi, I'm new to this and looking to find out..... surgery V radiotherapy. I was diagnosed with a benign meningioma last year. Because of worsening symptoms my neurosurgeon wants me to have surgery, I'm petrified.... So I saw the radiotherapy dept today to see if that's an option and it is. But after hearing about the long term side effects and other issues I'm now thinking at least surgery will remove quite a bit of it, despite the possibility of the after effects, ie facial paralysis after. Has anyone had radiotherapy rather than surgery....?

  • Hi Worrier

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis that brings you here.

I've had a look through old posts and I can see that [@YorkshirePud]‍ has had surgery for a meningioma. She commented on another post fairly recently so hopefully as I've now tagged her into your post she'll pop along to say Hello and share her experiences with you. She also mentions another more specific support group which you could ask about as I'm sure that you'll be able to chat with others who have faced this choice.

If you think that it might help to speak to one of our nurses then you're welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Whatever choice you make we send our best wishes for your treatment and hope that all goes smoothly.

  • Hello! I had my tumour removed five years ago on Monday!  I opted for surgery and was lucky to have no lasting effects.  Its terrifying thinking about the operation but you will be in good hands.  I have three Ms altogether and they had all grown slightly a couple of years ago so I had gamma knife.  Not sure if this would be an option for you, it depends on the size and location of your tumour.

If you are on Facebook there is a brilliant group on there.  Or feel free to ask me any questions, I know just how you will be feeling x x
