Is this a cause for concern?

I’m a 16 year old girl and my mum has never had breast cancer but other members of my family have. I may be overthinking this a lot but under my armpit there is a small lump and it hurts a lot like so badly. I never noticed the lump before and it only started hurting today. It is definitely not an ingrown hair or a shaving scratch or anything like that there is just a small lump under the skin which hurts a lot?? Should I wait a few days to see if it goes away or should i see my gp soon?

    Hi Appletree,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about the small lump that you've found under your arm.

Have you spoken to your Mum about this? This is probably the best place to start. Where cancer is concerned, no problem is too small or insignificant to get investigated and, the sooner you make an appointment to see your GP the better.

There are a number of other less serious things that could cause your symptoms, but better safe than sorry is my motto.

I hope that it all goes well and that nothing untoward is found.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
