Symptoms but normal blood count

Hi, I've been feeling unwell for around 5 months or so. On and off colds and a bout of flu. I've always been fit and healthy so have basically put it down to stress and anxiety. I've started noticing small red blood dots scattered around my body and have around 4 or 5 of them. Ive been advised it's called petechiae. I also had a couple of bouts of nightsweats once in Jan last year and again around 4 months ago. On both occasions I was training for a marathan and suspect the training was causing this. I've been to doc and he ran blood tests last week. They've come back normal but I've since developed a couple of new tiny blood spots. I also get tired a lot. I understand I've got a few symptoms of Lukemmia. Should I be reassured the blood test would have picked this up? I'm guessing so but don't want to leave it if they don't always find it. Thanks a lot

Ps apologies as I know lots of people on here are actually dealing with cancer and my issue may be nothing

  • Hi OllieS,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to read about the worries you've been having - I know any uncertain symptoms or bodily changes can be worrying.

It's good that you've been to see your doctor. It is of course good to trust them to avoid any additional worry on your part. However if you feel you have unexplained or unanswered questions, you could always make an appointment for another visit and just ensure you ask everything you want to to help with peace of mind. It's good to write down your questions or concerns so you don't forget anything.

I would also suggest avoiding looking up your symptoms on Google as that is rarely helpful and it's best to get advice specific to you from medical professionals.

Also if you have any questions for our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5) - although please note they are unable to diagnose or give a medical opinion.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
