Lump in neck, 20 y/o

Hey, I’m a 20 year old female.

A few months ago I noticed a lump in my neck, just between my ear and above my jaw. I don’t have any other notable symptoms except slight tiredness which I’m attributing to stress of university and a new job, and slight vision changes due to not wearing my glasses due to a prescription change I can’t afford at the moment. I’ve lost two stone over the past year, but I’ve been exercising and following a healthy diet in order to do this. I suppose I’ve just got scared because it feels like the lump has become more pronounced - any advice on what to do would be much appreciated xx

  • Hi Patz06,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your worries - which are of course perfectly natural. In these situations it is always best to speak to your GP about any concerns. They are best placed to advise.

You could write down your thoughts/worries and any observations or changes you've noted in the lump and also how you've been feeling, and discuss it with them so that they have all the information.

Prior to that, if you wish, you can always speak to our nurses. They're available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5) if you would like to discuss anything.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Hi, I’m 21 and female currently being treated for stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I had a lump come up too but just above my collar bone. Have you been to doctors/ referred to hospital? If so they are likely to do an ultrasound and biopsy. I didn’t have any symptoms what so ever. Young, fit, healthy and travelling at the time of my diagnosis.

I hope you get your results soon and the outcome is good but if not hospitals/ doctors are amazing these days.

  • Hi, thanks so much for your reply.

I haven’t made an appointment yet because I wasn’t sure if there were no other symptoms if there would be any point or if I was just being over-anxious about it. I will make an appointment now. Hopefully, if anything it’ll put my mind at rest.

  • Always worth getting any lumps checked out soon as. Mine was pure luck that I was going away so thought I’d best get it looked at before hand. I think it’s normal to fret but there must be so many people that get lumps and it isn’t anything serious. But either way needs checking out so you know. Wishing you all the best
