Possible exposure to asbestos

Hi,

i was was wondering if anyone had any ideas or advice... for a few years I’ve taken my bedding sheets and towels to a local laundrette in Edinburgh (the building is part of old tenement block builds 1800”s.) the last few times I took stuff there they had a hole I. The back wall with some sort of I sustion hanging out and left it there for s few weeks. I’m co Verne’s my items were exposed to the fibres of asbestos and now that the work is complete I don’t know how to tell if it was dangerous or not. I’ve used the used the sheets and towels and am worried I’ve exposed my young family :(

  • Hi Su-123,

If you are unsure were exposed to asbestos, or if your sheets have been contaminated I think it is advisable for you to contact your local council and speak to an asbestos officer.

According to the Health and Safety Executive, short term exposure to asbestos will most likely have led to minimal exposure to fibres, and is very unlikely to have any long-term ill health effects. You can read more about this by clicking here

Most people have been exposed to low levels of asbestos, as it can be found in soil and air and yet few people become ill from it.

    I hope this helps,
