Breast lump waiting for results

Hi, i know there are alot of these posts already and no one can give me any definite answers until my results come back but I am worrying and wondered if anyone was in the same sort of situation as me.

I'm 28 and I found a new lump around 2 months ago, had to wait along time to get a doctor appointment. Got sent to breast clinic had ultrasound and biopsies on the lump. Consultant said the lump didn't seem like a fibroadenoma, which I have had two of these removed previously. This lump is irregular in shape and doesnt move freely, I think he said it was 1.5cm but not sure.

I'm just worried because with my previous lumps I only had an ultrasound and examination and then had them removed later on, straight away the consultant told me they were benign after the ultra sound. This time he didn't seem overly concerned, but not reassurance either. He just said we will have to see what the results come back with.

I feel stupid now for not asking what he actually thought it was, but I was in shock that it wasnt just a simple scan and definitely benign.

Sorry for rambling on, think I just needed to let it out.

  • Hi Kirsty

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health concerns recently. As much as it felt like a shock at the appointment, it sounds as if the consultant is moving quickly to try and give you some answers about that this recent lump might be. Have they said how long you will have to wait for the results?

I've had a look through the forum and [@Starlight22]‍ is in a similar situation to you having recently had a biopsy and waiting for results. You can read her post here.

Keep in touch Kirsty and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for getting back to me. Yes I am glad I had everything done on that day, just wasnt expecting it because of previous experiences.

I just wish that I would of asked what he thought it was, but I didn't. Is it normal for the consultant not to say what he think it could be? He gave no real indication, didn't say maybe its benign or tissue. He just said the results will be back in a week and we will go from there.

    Thank you

  • Hi Kirsty,

Sorry to hear you are going through this also. I’m in a similar situation to you.

I had triple assessment 2 weeks ago after being referred by my GP to the hospital. I had mammogram then ultrasound. The radiologist told me ‘ it does not look good and that i’ll need surgery’. I froze as he continued on and done a biopsy.

I seen the breast doctor straight after and she told me I have a 26 mm and 11 mm lump and a swollen gland and that I needed an MRI before I went back for results.

Only after the appointment did I realize I never asked any questions as I was just expecting to have Cysts!

I had MRI this afternoon and back tomorrow for results. Feeling very nervous now. When are you back for results?

  • Hi Bud,

Thanks for your message. I am so sorry that you are going through this too.

As I'd had two benign lumps removed already I was just expecting it to be the same so I was in shock when I had to have a biopsy, I think that's why I forgot to ask what they think it was. I just feel confused as to why they didn't say what they thought it may be. I had my ultrasound and biopsy last Saturday and they told me it would take a week for results to come back and I would get a phone call.

What time do you have your appointment tomorrow? I hope everything goes as well as it possibly can. Let me know how you get on if you can.

    Best wishes.

  • Hi Kirsty

Appointment is at 12 today..so just having a cuppa before I head to the hospital :)

Dreading it now,  the thoughts of bad news and having to tell people. I'm more worried for those around me really. I'm 37 and have 2 kids.

Will post later and let you know how I get on.

  • Hi just wanted to let you know I have been thinking of you today and hope your appointment went as well as it could have x

  • Hi Kirsty

Not good news today. I have invasive ductal carcinoma. Waiting on 3rd lab result to see if I have / am ( dont’ know how you say it ) triple negative. I had an idea of these names but thought you either had one or the other. In the next few weeks i’ll be an expert on all the names and tests ! Good news was that the swollen gland was negative for cancer.

MRI results were not ready today. Plan is CT scan on Monday and more biopsies on Tuesday with a view to starting chemo in 3 weeks, then Op then radiotherapy.

I feel ok, probably just shock. Worst part was telling my mam and dad this afternoon. My son is 12 so dreading telling him but will leave it until I start chemo. So business as usual in my house until treatment starts

I hope all goes well for you. Best of luck.

    xx

  • Hi bud19, sorry I havent been able to reply until now. I am really very sorry that you didn't get good news. I hope you have a good support network to help you through. I've heard that you can get books to help explain to children but I'm not sure what ages they are for.

How are you feeling today? I dont mean that as a stupid question, more as are you still in shock.

Thank you, I havent heard anything yet xx
