27 and scared ultrasound

Hi all,

I can't believe I've got to this point of writing to complete strangers but I need to speak to someone rather than the people around me who say "everything will be ok" i have been urgently referred to have a ultrasound and cystoscopy. I'm 27 years old and after what the GP thought was a urine infection I started becoming incontinent not all the times just random time and i wont even know its happened. I have had blood tests all normal and ny urine still has blood in it with no infection present. The appointment card my GP gave me was "we are testing you for cancer" which as you can imagine i am terrified. They have a cancellation tomorrow for ultrasound so im going to that. Will they tell me the results straight away? Has anyone else had this problem also? Any advice is appreciated as I'm driving myself crazy with thoughts.

  • Hey good evening. I am the same boat at the moment. This is my introduction.

    GOOD EVENING ALL.

I AM A 32 YEAROLD FEMALE AND YESTERDAY I HEARD FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT DREADED WORD TUMOUR.

LET ME TAKE YOU BACK 4 WEEKS AGO.... I woke up in the morning as normal and went to the toilet. As I have done for many years really suffered with a stiff and sore back until I have emptied my bladder.  Noticed blood on the toilet paper...I thought oh ive started my period. Only ive had a hysterectomy four years ago. Panic set in. Looked in the toilet and all fresh thick blood. And alot of it. It seem to just be trickling out. I managed to catch it and sat in the urgent care centre to be told I had a UTI. I was treated with a weeks course of antibiotics but the bleeding first thing in the morning hadn't stopped. (I had no other symptoms of a UTI no pain or unwell feeling).

Back to the GPS once a week for the next three weeks again with blood. No infection but blood in urine. They rushed me in for an ultrasound as I have previously has a kidney stone (left kidney).

Fast forward to yesterday.. my results indicated that I have a probable begnine Angiomyolipoma but unclear will require further imagery. It also indicated that I also have a dromedary hump with possible underlying renal mass. 2ww referal sent to urologist. Safe to say I am so worried.

I have googled and googled but not finding much on either based within the Uk. There is lots of information on Tubular sclerosis that goes in par with angiomyolipoma but I do not have any other characteristics of that illness.

Is there anyone else my age and female been through this similar regarding the right kidney??

    Many Thanks

    J xx

  • Hi J,

Sorry to hear this. You really have been through it. I had 2 kidney stones in 2017 which they tried to tell me was a urine infection. However 2 A&E trips later i was (sorry to br graphic) vomiting up my own urine. My right kidney was 5% function and infected and my tubes were so blocked my urine had no where else to go but up. Thankfully the Urologist at my local hospital acted quickly and i had then both removed in surgery. The Dr told me another hour of being left like that i would of needed kidney dialysis. At the time i was 26 and im hoping and praying now it is another flare up of kidney stones and i know GPs are being extra cautious which i am greatful for. However I am terrified.

  • Hey,

Oh my days thats just awful :( . My kidney stones wasnt that bad and must have passed it naturally as it hasnt been picked up on the ultrasound i had last week. I am absolutely terrified and thinking worst case scenario.

The wait and not knowing is awful. Not knowing about the information I have been given is terrifying!!!

Can't sleep and constantly feel sick with the worry.

It will take a few days for your ultrasound results to get back to your doctor. The sonographer won't usually tell you if there is anything to worrie about unfortunately.

Its all just a waiting game

    Xx

  • Honestly the waiting is the worst part. Im thinking the worst and thinking im not going to see my son grow up. As dramatic as that sounds with no results I just cant help but think it. Did you get your ultrasound results striaght away or did you have to wait for gp to contact you? X

  • Hey i waited around 4 days for the resukts then they called me in xx
