Numbness around nipple concern of local recurrence

I’m 10 years in remission from oestrogen positive breast cancer, lymph nodes affected and removed with mastectomy. I also had complete coverage of DCIS other than behind the nipple area, my surgeon left this on. Chemo but no radiotherapy as immediate reconstruction. I’ve noticed a numb and tingling sensation around my nipple for a few weeks ... it’s at the point now where it feels tender to touch and there is a small area of hardened skin just above my nipple. I’m going to get this checked out this week ... just wondered if anyone else has experienced something similar as I’m quite worried.

    Hi Molly,

Welcome to our forum. I am just coming up to 10 years since I had my first breast cancer. I had a second bout the following year and had a double mastectomy. I have had all removed and no reconstruction, but have not experienced the sensation that you describe around your nipple.

I am glad to hear that you are going to get this checked out this week and, I hope that it all turns out well. You will naturally be worried until you get some answers.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx
