Kidney cancer

I think I've been lucky that a small tumor was found in my kidney during an unrelated scan. I have to choose cryoablation or surgery....... Eek

  • Hi there,

I have had kidney cancer. My tumour was 5 cm so it was taken out straight away , still was stage I.

I don't know much about cryoablation but I would say go with what the doctor recommends. Ask him : if I was your wife , what would you do ? :)

On the other hand I think ( this is personal opinion) I would want it out. You have to ask it's location and if they can take out laparoscopic so the pain is minimal and also they leave most of your kidney. If it's got to be open partial then I would think twice ( so so painful) .

Let me know how it goes.

    Hugs

  • Thank you. Dr said there are pros and cons to both. (I rejected the watch and wait plan). He didn't recommended one above the other so I am doing research.

It would good to have someone who has had cryoablation share their experience

  • There are lots of Facebook pages ( mostly American) group where you can share your experience and experienced people will give you their advice. Just search on Facebook renal cell cancer or along them lines and you will find us.

  • Hi

I have just had a robotic partial nephrectomy to diagnose a tumour in my kidney, other option was active surveillance. I made the right choice as the results confirmed papillary Type 1

I have just met with my consultant/surgeon who informed me that it was a complex procedure and unfortunately the tumour tore which I am on the understanding it was when my liver was moved as it was covering the  majority of my kidney and the tumour. He said it was minimal contamination and they performed a washout. This has now put me in the high risk monitoring.

How can he know it was minimal as surely you can’t see cancerous cells? Does it just take one cell from the tumour that wasn’t removed to enter my blood/lymphatic system to start another cancer or secondary?

Risks to all surgery but I wasn’t made aware of this one
