Hi, new here and need some help ! Am worried sick and not coping well .
Went to a new dentist 18 April who noticed large tonsil and referred me to gp . Previous dentists never picked up or even checked this .
Gp did urgent referral to hospital . Saw consultant 30 April who did nasal camera and said not very much but booked in immediately for op for tonsil to be removed on 15th May but said also need urgent MRI before op. Still waiting for MRI . Was also sent for blood test .
Received a copy of letter to my gp that now has me terrified - the consultant did not say much other than tonsil must be removed . Can anyone explain this paragraph in letter ? It makes me think it's worse and may be Cancer that has spread ? Cannot call hospital or gp until tomorrow so hoping somebody can help .
Letter says "right tonsil enlarged looks abnormal and feels quite firm . Camera confirmed there is posterior extension and the base of tongue is prominent but necessarily abnormal. The rest of examination was normal and no lymphadenopathy "
Am hoping they have missed out the word 'not' where it says 'necessarily abnormal ' but none of this was was said even though I asked at the time as very anxious - now obviously worried sick ! And feeling quite angry too at lack of explanation.
Sorry to ramble but would really appreciate some help here ,
