Cervical cancer

I was diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer 2 years ago when I was 28... I had a radical hysterectomy. I still cant get over it is this normal I cry all the time. Sometimes I put on a brave face and try to carry on as normal but then I just come back down with a bang. Everytime I hear someone is pregnant I feel like I cant breathe.

Is this normal. How do people cope with this ? when does it get easier?

  • Hi jaclyn,

A hysterectomy is a massive thing and people react to it in all sorts of ways, all of them are natural and understandable. It's important that you look for support, be it amongst family or friends, or there may be support groups in your area that may be useful. You can also find resources here. I hope others can share their experiences and ways of coping, but if you need someone to talk to our nurses are here for support. You can call them for free on 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes to you,
