I was diagnosed just before my 60th birthday in August last year. Like you 5 weeks of Chemoradiation - the radiotherapy for me was the worst bit as most of the time I felt exhausted, coped by having a nap in the car park before driving home. It also for me made swallowing much harder and this continued for about two weeks after treatment finished. Then I could eat a wider variety of food so I tried to put weight on prior to surgery at the beginning of December. The other good bit of advice I was given was to get as fit as possible prior to surgery. The operation is a scarey thought, maybe I was lucky but the pain management was excellent and I was home after 8 days. I have my third stretch this coming week and life is very different post op but not for a minute do I regret having the operation - initially I was determined I didn't want it. Life does change but take it a day at a time and I hope you are like me surrounded by amazing family and friends it really helps.
Wishing you all the best.
