Colposcopy results

Good evening.

I've been reading through some posts to the forum. I've recently had my cervical screening and was sent for a colposcopy. I've received a letter to say that I have some pre cancerous changes, that it's nothing to worry about, however, I would benefit from some treatment to remove a slightly wider area, as these changes are unlikely to resolve without treatment.

I have an appointment in a weeks time and I'll be seen by a nurse specialist.  Does this sound a little vague? Has anyone received a letter similar to this? If so , what happens next? I tried to ask for more details with the receptionist at my doctor's but they said I need to request more information by filling in a form .

After reading some responses on the forum to a similar situation, I'm feeling a bit nervous.

Kind regards

Kelly

  • Hi Kelly and welcome to the Cancer Chat.

As you've found out from reading some posts on the forum already, this can be a little confusing but I hope the information I'm including about screening results and the treatment for them will make it easier to understand.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will be along for a chat soon, but feel free to give our cancer nurses a call if you'd like to chat with them about this as well. Their phone lines will be open again from Tuesday onwards between 9a.m - 5pm and they can be conatcted on 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
