I don't think anyone ever gets sent straight for an ultrasound without having a wait for an appointment letter.....I'm currently waiting for one myself so I know how you are feeling, but my lump was found last Monday (a week tomorrow) and I've watched for the postman every day since! Hang in there, in a perfect world it would all be done straight away but at least we have an NHS....and maybe having time to adjust to the idea is beneficial even if we don't want too much delay.
The waiting inbetween appointments and waiting for results is the worst, a really horrible time.
The NHS catchment area dependant on where you are,some areas have much longer waiting times. I was fast tracked for a 2 vweek referral it took nearly 6 weeks. It really is a waiting game.
Some tests like a simple xray can be done same day but scans etc are done on an appointment basis.
I know you will be very anxious,having been told they found a `lump`,but try to not overthink things as you will end up getting in a state and it may well end up being something benign and nothing to worry about.
