Non stop bleeding DAY 48

Hi everyone I’ve just signed up to this as I’m needing some advice. I am 21 years old and my last period was 16/02/19. However, the bleeding never stopped and I’m now on my 48th day of my ‘period’. I’ve never had this happen before and am really worried. I have been to the doctors and they gave me tranexamic acid which did not work. I went back and they said they can’t do anything else except put me on the pill. I don’t want to go on the pill again as the pill messed my cycle up when I was taking it last year after I had my son in March. So I asked if they could refer me for a scan to see if there’s anything going on inside. I have a scan booked for 25/04/19 but my bleeding is just so bad I don’t know what to do in the mean time. It’s at the point where it looks like really fresh blood from a cut and I have clots the size of 50p coins every time I go to the toilet. I am quite heavy and it just seems to drip out and go everywhere. (Sorry for the explicit detail). I’m just wondering if anyone else is going through a period/prolonged bleeding for this long and if anyone has any advice on what I should do until my scan?

  • That’s an awful long time to wait for your scan and to be left with such continuous and heavy bleeding. If you aren’t already taking iron supplements it might be an idea as you’ll become anaemic.

id also be inclined, given how long you’re being asked to wait to firstly call up the department where you’ve been referred to and explain how much you’re bleeding to see if there’s any way they can see you sooner and worse case scenario you may have to head up to A&E, you will be seen, assessed and likely scanned much sooner than 25/4. It’s not ideal, but your GP should be taking you more seriously and advising and helping you better.
