Hi my mum has stomach and colon cancer and has been 2 to 6 months I finding it hard because she's being so normal and looks so well she's 78 lovely lady she wants to stay with me when she gets poorly I can't bear the thought of her going I lost my dad 13 years ago suddenly.

    Hi Tony,

    Welcome to our community. I am so sorry to hear about your mum's stomach and colon cancer. What treatment is your mum being given for these and, how is she coping with it all?

    Have the doctors given your mum a prognosis yet? Instead of thinking of her going, you might both find it easier to try to make the most of the time she has left. Talk to her and don't leave anything unsaid. Are there any people or places that she wants to visit? Perhaps you could arrange this? Help your mum to live each day to the full, whilst she is well enough to do so. Don't look too far ahead. If taking things day by day is too much, then try to take things hour by hour.

    If she is in pain ensure that her medication is controlling it. If not speak to the doctors and ask for something more effective. I have lost my own mum to cancer and know just how difficult it is to watch this happen. You have a hard road ahead of you and, I sincerely hope and pray that you find the strength to see this through.

    Hi thank you theres no treatment for her she's ok at the moment but she's becoming forgetful she was diagnosed in July had operation but spread rapidly so sad kind regards I don't want her to suffer in pain god bless u Helen x

    Hi Helen,

    I am so sorry to hear that there is no treatment for her. Did your mum have a lumpectomy or a mastectomy initially?

    I have been there with both of my parents. My mum had breast cancer for 12 years before she developed secondary cancer. By that stage it was in her liver, lungs, brain and bones and, it was just heartbreaking to watch. I have also just lost my father-in-law, who had 6 days from his cancer diagnosis to his death. I myself have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 9 years, so unfortunately, I have had a lot of experience in this field.
