So confused and worried

I was sent to the breast clinic with a lump in my boob, had mammogram ultrasound and biopsy.....return for results 1 week later and was told it looks ok.....but I had to go back in 6 weeks for a check again.....so when I get there we do the whole thing all over again.....only this time I’m told that I will b sent for a contrast mammogram to show anything up as the original biopsy had done the job.....so very confused as originally I thought it was ok!  Now they say there is some suspicion and will get appointment ASAP!  How can it b ok one minute and not the next? So confused and worried now

please if anyone has experienced similar or have any thoughts let me know x

  • Hello Louise4542,

I can understand your confusion but please try not worry. There are many reasons why you might need to be tested again, but this doesn't neccessarily mean cancer. Only your doctor can answer that but in any case I hope your next appointment goes ok.

    Hi Louise,

I am so sorry to hear about your confusion, which is totally understandable. I am not a doctor, so cannot give you chapter and verse, but there are many reasons for a mammogram. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and needed one with the first one, but not for the second.

There are also different types of breast cancer and, some are easier to detect than others. If you were given a return appointment of 6 weeks for a check up, there must have been something that your consultant wasn't 100% happy with in your original tests. It may be that, if this is still there, s/he just wants you to have a mammogram to rule out having anything sinister.

I know that waiting for results is always a scary time. Try to keep yourself fully occupied with pleasant pursuits in the meantime. Do your best to stay away from consulting Dr Google, as this will only scare you further for no good reason.

I hope that you get seen soon and that all will still be ok. Please keep in touch and let us know the outcome. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
