So scared. 24

Hi all. So sorry for posting here i'm so worried. I feel like ive had bowel issues for at least a year and a half but recently am really worried. I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy a while ago maybe last march and nothing was found however they could only go to the distal transverse as i'm too small. I was anemic a few months ago but had a blood test a few months ago to re check and i was just low in vitamin d. I went to the toilet just now and there was a mucus. I looked closer and there was blood mixed in. My stool is loose and comes out easily. Sometimes i'll go for a wee and realise i also need to go properly and a small bit comes out. Sorry to be gross. I'm 24 this month. I'm going to go back to the doctors tomorrow and demand further tests as i'm sick with worry over seeing the blood. Does anybody know the statistics of somebody 24 getting colon cancer?

Thank you

  • Hi there, it must be a worrying time for you. I don't know statistics but generally younger people are at less risk from colon cancer.

Don't forget lots of other things can affect your bowels, such as inflammatory conditions, infections, food intolerance/allergy. You're doing the right thing going back to the doctor. Be upfront about your main worry.

    Fingers crossed for you.

    Hi there,

    Welcome to the forum.

I am not a medic. As Gamechanger says, there are plenty of more common causes of blood in this area, for example, it could be something as simple as polyps, which can be removed.

I hope that  any tests you have can put your mind to rest.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • All of my blood tests came back fine no anemia however after a back passage examination - yuck - the doctor saw specks of blood. Still waiting on stool sample results. So worried but surely normal blood results is a good sign? Or are they not normaly affected?

    Thanks x

    Hi,

The fact that your bloods have come back clear is certainly good news. When are you due to get the results of your stool sample? It sounds as if you are getting all the right tests.

Hopefully, nothing untoward will be discovered and it will be something quite simple.

    Do keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
