New Lump

In 2015 I had 3 modules removed and 60% of my thyroid. No cancer. I have just discovered an oval shaped lump, just a bit smaller than an egg, above the side that has 40% thyroid left. The lump is sore to touch and can be painful at times when I move my neck. Could this be another nodule growth or is that possible?

    Hi  Rclyf,

    Welcome to the forum.

I am so sorry to hear about this latest lump. Most of us here are not doctors. We are cancer patients of one sort or another. It sounds as if you should make an appointment to go back and get this new side checked out too. Do you still have contact with the clinic? If so, this would probably be the quickest way to get seen. Failing that, make an appointment with your GP as soon as you can and ask for a referral. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much for your response Jolamine. I will make an appointment with my doctor xx

  •

If you tell the receptionist what you want to see the doctor for, she should be able to give you an emergency appointment.

I sincerely hope that it is nothing untoward, but it is always better to check it out and, the sooner the better.

Please let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jlamine xx

  • Hello Rclf and thank you for posting a question. I am sorry to learn about the thyroid lump. This must be difficult for you.

As you know it is not possible for me to tell you what this lump is. So if you have not already done so it would be a good idea to see your GP to get this checked. But to answer your question, it is possible to have multiple nodules in the thyroid. So it could be another one. Thyroid  cancer is rare and most thyroid nodules turn out not to be cancer.

I hope that you are able to get this sorted out soon.

We are currently trying to get an impression of how satisfied Cancer Chat members are with the answers the nurses are posting to their questions.  We would be very grateful if you would take a few minutes to fill in the feedback survey here.

Please get back to us if you have any other questions.  If you would like to telephone.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Jean
