My daughter has been referred to breast clinic

Hi would anybody be able to advise me please my 16 year old daughter has been referred to the breast clinic as she has a small lump in her breast which started of quite painful and the doc thinks it's a cysts and gave her an intibiotic which only takes the pain away while taking it.2 weeks later while waiting on an appointment for breast clinic she found another in the opposite arm pit same size as the first one and extremely sore. So same again phoned doc and antibiotic for another week which makes her feel like crap. In the meantime I phoned the hospital to see what the waiting time is for an appointment and they have said 13 weeks   What am I supposed to do she is constantly feeling unwell and just not herself at all if I take her to A&E will she be seen quicker or what do I do

  • Hi just need to update this also looking advice please bear with me as weve somewhat progressed from where we where

So her appointment was triaged for the breast clinic as routine and is still waiting for that appointment she now has 4or 5 relatively small pea like lumps in her neck and one in her arm pit and also 2in her lower stomach a referral was made to hematology which of course Wass urgent and has already been seen and had full bloods sent of as the doc said that she was having trouble finding the lumps but said the bloods would be more clear as to what's going on that was 3weeks ago and her appointment is in 3weeks time   We got a letter this morning for a general surgery outpatients appointment and we have no clue why I really don't now if something has showed up in her bloods as we don't get the results till we go back to hematology can any one advice what the general surgery thing would be for I am really starting to worry

  • Hi,

Lots of surgeons come under ‘general surgery’ even though they may have a specialty- my breast surgeon did. Also the surgeon you see will be the person who will be the clinical lead for your daughters care and is responsible for the care plan, which will include other healthcare professionals, the surgeon themselves may or may not be part of any surgical interventions. Just because your daughter has been referred to a general surgery does not mean she needs surgery. It may be the clinical lead just wants to go through the blood test results with you and what happens next - which may be nothing.

try not to read too much into things just now, I know that’s hard as you just want answers but worrying won’t achieve anything. Take care x

  • Thank you for replying she dosnt have a nurse but am hoping when I phone general surgery on Monday the can shed some light
