Help and advice please

Hi I haven't had diagnosis yet, have large breast lump for third time and melanoma removed from nipple a year ago. Just need advice for armpit and arm swelling and pain. Also just developed weird white lumps under skin near armpit. Please help I've shouted at every one in the house today and husband either helpless or useless depending on my mood.

    Hi Nansam,

I am so sorrry to hear about your breast problems. What happened with your previous lumps? You should certainly go and get them checked out again. If it is only a year since you had your melanoma removed, you should be able to phone up your breast care nurse and she should make an appointment for you to be seen at the clinic.

When there are so many unknowns, you are bound to be a bit tetchy. Many of us can be like this, leaving our poor partners walking on egg shells. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 9 years and am due to have a melanoma removed from my face shortly, so I understand how you are feeling at present.

Hopefully, you just have a lumpy breast and there is nothing to worry about, but you need to get it investigated to be sure.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks for replying, the other tumours were phyllode, I'm waiting for diagnosis now which is always quick am in the two week turnaround. Trying to stay normal with one fat arm is hard. Want to go into a field and scream. Over last three years had bit of bowel removed due to undiscovered birth defect, then half of nipple dug out. Just thought I was going to get a break this year. Did you have problems with your armpits and weight loss. Are you well now?

  • Get UV protection on and you should get ultrasun on prescription. Don't know if it makes it easier or harder but am actually in the business so to speak.

    Hi Nansam,

It sounds as if you've been through the mill in the past couple of years. I had six lymph nodes removed from under my arm when I had my lumpectomy and have been sore there ever since, even though all of the lymph nodes were clear.

Instead of losing weight, I piled it on and have been really struggling to try and get it down again.I have managed to lose 5 stones, but seem to have stuck here for a while. I have always used UV protection.

Do you think that your arm pain might be due to Lymphoedema? I have this in both arms and attend a lymphoedema clinic every 12 weeks for 2 weeks. Here I get manual lymphatic drainage and have my arms bandaged from my fingertips to my shoulders. I look like the Michelin Man for those 2 weeks and get some very strange looks from members of the public. In between these visits I wear elastic sleeves to keep the swelling down. Ask about this swelling when you return for your test results. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
