PSA levels rising after 20 radiotherapy sessions

Hello, my husband had brachytherapy 8 years ago.  The cancer returned but in his chest.  He had 20 radiotherapy sessions in December and today had the results of his latest PSA test.  It has gone up from 8 before the latest radiotherapy sessions to 11.  He is rather disappointed, would this be regarded as normal.  He cannot see his consultant until later in February.

  • Hello berniefitz,

How disappointing it must have been for you to find out that his PSA levels have gone up from 8 to 11. Even though he isn't seeing his consultant until later in February, perhaps you could ring the consultant's secretary and see whether they could tell you whether they think this rise is significant or not? Alternatively, you could perhaps ask to talk to the GP about this  who may also have an idea as to what it means in his particular circumstances.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday if you want to talk things through with them.

I hope that others who have been in a similar situation will also see your post and share their own experience with you.

    Best wishes,
