Make Over Advice after coming through cancer treatment

Hi Everyone,

Im new to the forum but hoping I can benefiy from ur help, advice andcexperiences of life in remission.

I underwent trratment for Acute Promylocetic Leukaemia and finished my last treatment in June 2017.

Before my hair fell out it was elbow length and to be honest I really steggled with the loss of it as Im sure a lot of u have too!₩ Its now grown back but its MEGA short in comparison to what Im used to (pixie bob) so to try cheer me up until it grows to a length Im happy with I thought about getting some funky highlights but I'm  not sure if i can?

It grew back thicker and darker initially but has now lightened back to its 'normal' colour so does that mean I should be ok to start colouring again?

  • Hi WilsyBear,  When my hair grew back the grey (very white) decided to grow first before my normal colour.  I was a 40 year old who looked at least 20 years older, so I dyed my hair as soon as it was long enough for the dye to hang on!  I have had the pixie look and have now progressed on to a lopsided bob (its called asymmetric apparently).  Have you been to the hairdressers yet as they are very good at tidying it up and making it look 100% better.  In fact I have had much fun with styles and colours and my hairdresser has been great at suggesting styles, a real pick me up when visiting the salon and as much fun for the hairdresser if they are creative.  My hair grew back much thicker and coarser and much of the appointment is spent thinning it out so I can control it a bit, along with straightening it to within an inch of its life!  Can’t recommend finding a good hairdresser enough, I have a right giggle at my appointment and leave feeling much better with a new style and colour normally.

  • Ive been to the hairdresser a few times to keep it tidy and in a decent shapewhixmxh is great but ultimately I still don't feel right afterwards coz it's just not me!

I struggled to accept the concept that getting it cut often will help it goes back in the long term.

Bottom line is I look in the mirror and don't like what I see with this haircut as in my head I see a boy in woman's clothing! Nothing wrong with a boy in women's clothing at all if it feels good but Thats my issue ... I don't feel good. I know it will grow back and in all honesty it's almost at a chin length bob but that last inch just isn't growing quick enough for me!

Im hoping some funky high/low lights will be enough until yhat last inch grows but if not then I'm just gonna have to suck it up n try be patient .......

It's my birthday in April so hoping it will be at a length I feel feminine with by then!
