Post lumpectomy

Hi, I’m new to this forum. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2018, had the cancer removed & also lymph nodes. I start radiotherapy next week, but the meds I’ve been prescribed are making me feel slightly nauseous & bloated. Is this normal, I’m concerned as these meds are to be taken for 5 years.

    Hi Polly-P,

Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry for the reason that has brought you here.I am glad to hear that you have your surgery behind you and hope that you are beginning to feel better in yourself. What type of breast cancer have you got?  Did you have a lumpectomy and how many lymph nodes did they remove - also were any of the lymph nodes affected and what medication are you taking? Sorry for so many questions, but this information all helps to point you in the right direction.

Let them know that you are feeling nauseous when you go for your radiotherapy. There are many different anti-nausea tablets, so you will find something to help. I'm not sure whether or not other drugs will still cause the bloating, but mention it to your care team.

I hope that your radiotherapy works well next week.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Polly-P

Are the tablets in place of chemo?

  • Hi,      I did  have a lumpectomy & 4 lymph nodes removed which were all clear.

I’m not sure what type of cancer it was but I think it was eastrogen related, forgive me for being vague but the consultant was telling me that much information at the time, I couldn’t absorb it all.

    I am taking Iasibon 50mg

    Letrozole 2.5mg

    regards Polly-P

  • Hi,     I wasn’t told the tablets were instead of chemo.

    They are     Iasibon 50mg

    &.   Letrozole 2.5mg

    regards Polly-P

  • Dr Google says the Lasibon is to prevent the loss of bone density, this is a common side effect of Aromatase inhibitors, your other med Letrozole is an Aromatase inhibitor.

I’m on tamoxifen and didn’t get nausea as a side effect altho got pretty much every other one.

As Jolamine says, when you start radiotherapy you might feel nauseous, make sure you get something to help with this, I found it got worse as I went through treatment.

    Hi Polly_P,

I am glad to hear that your lymph nodes were all clear.and that you are HER2-. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 9 years. The first time I had a lumpectomy, followed by Tamoxifen. The second I had a double mastectomy, followed by Letrozole for 6 years. I stopped taking this in July, 2017. I wasn't given Lasibon, but I had regular bone scans instead.

I put on a lot of weight with Tamoxifen and Letrozole and also felt quite nauseous. There are a number of side-effects to both tablets and, I think that I got most of them.

I hope that your radiotherapy goes well next week.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx
