Just had LLETZ treatment

Im 25 and had my first smear on the 31st Oct and got my letter in the post on monday stating that I had high grade severe dykonsis and was HPV + and needed to arrange a colposcopy appointment.

I had my appointment this morning and had to have A LLETZ treatment. Which is absolutely fine, not worth the panic and doesn't hurt, just feels weirdly uncomfortable like a smear. Also not had hardly any pain or bleeding today.

I spoke to the doctor before the treatment and she said my smear showed no signs  of cancer, only these pre cancerous cells that she wanted to remove.

These cells have been sent for testing and I've been doing some research and seen a few stories about people having stage 1a1 cancer. Obviously I'm now freaking out again. Will my results come back with this even though the doctor said there was no cancer? I don't think I can cope another 3 weeks of this worry! These past 3 days have been hell .

Any advice would be appreciated ! Laura x

  • Hello Laura93,

I thought I would just drop by and say hello and mention that I actually just welcomed another member to our forum [@Smearx3]‍ who posted her story on this thread. She has been feeling really down since receiving her smear results and I think you two would have a lot to share with one another. Hearing from your experience at the colposcopy clinic will probably reassure her and help her prepare herself for her own appointment. I am glad your LLETZ treatment went well and that you didn't feel any pain.

I think you did well to talk to the doctor about your treatment and you must be reassured by what she told you. It is probably just routine to send these cells for testing so try not to worry too much about it and it sounds like you scared yourself by googling which inevitably will bring up all the worst case scenarios and make you worry even more. So try to avoid doing any online research and have faith in what the doctor has told you - hopefully the test results will confirm what the doctor  has said to you. The best thing to do while waiting for these results is to keep distracted and focused on other things so try and do fun things this weekend to take your mind off it! If you still feel very anxious about it all and need to talk it through with our lovely nurses, you can ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,

  • After receiving my letter saying I had tested positive for HPV and moderate dyskaryosis ......and was feeling ok ish about my coploscopy.  Then spoke to a couple of people at work who had had Lletz treatment and quite frankly wished I hadn't.  They both said it had been awful experience and very painful . Now feeling more than a bit terrified so was grateful to read your post

  • Hi,

I have had the Lletz procedure done about 3 hours ago and I can hand on heart say it wasn't as bad a was lead to believe. I had heard horror stories from my friends but I wish I hadn't worried myself into a panic.

I explained to the nurse my fears of being able to feel it all.

From start to finish it was pretty pain free and the worst part was the speculum going in and my worry of it all.

I had 4 injections and I wasn't able  to feel any of them.

I am not in any pain now apart from slight periods pains.

I had to post this on here as I was terrified and wanted to explain it's not all bad stories :)

    I hope this helps
