Hello, my father passed away on October 7th, the cause of death was hospitalized acquired pneumonia, metastatic adenocarcinoma of the colon, and psoas absess. Osteomyelitis right hip, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. My issue is that he had an operation to remove his bowel which was high risk as his kidneys had failed 5 days before. The surgeons where brilliant although they didn't remove all the cancer and after the 6 hour op he was straight to ICU. After this his recovery was amazing, guess so happy he survived and he had the inner strength to fight anything. He could not walk due to an abscess and was kept in for four weeks. During this time the main problems where blood pressure suddenly dropping and very low sodium. This stabilized on the Tuesday and they sent him home on Thursday.i had serious concerns but was assured it was for the best. At home he was getting antibiotics 3times a day and he deteriorated fast. 5 days later he was rushed to hospital for a blood transfusion, sent home at midnight and given a home blood transfusion the next day. Four hours later he was rushed to hospital again and left in a corridor all night. The next day I had to drag it out of the doctors that he had sceptis. Then I was told that because of this he could no longer have chemo and there was nothing they could do. After this they tried different antibiotics for 5 days then withdrew his treatment and he died 2 days later the morning after his birthday. I have so many unanswered questions and I feel that between deciding to send him home and the way the blood transfusion was carried out played a part in him not getting chemo and his death. I would like to know has anyone else had a bad home transfusion as it seems like a bad practice to me. This is tormenting me as I feel I watched a series of mistakes contributed to my dads death. Please help as I am on my own with this
