Worried and I Cant Google anymore

Hi all, been interesting reading the various posts and good luck and best wishes to all the people battling cancer.

I, like most of us have lost someone to cancer and this year i losy my father-in-law to lung cancer. The reason for my post is i have been feeling unwell for the last 6 weeks, it started with a cough and sore throat and feeling tired and chest pain. After 3 weeks I saw my GP and was sent for Xray, this was clear but i still had the symptoms, my glands in my neck was enlarged and this has been on and off throughout, my throat sometimes felt swollen although swallowing was not a problem . I had and still have a headache, not the worst headache but just constantly there and pain in my back and shoulders, again not the worst pain but lingering. I was sent for full blood test but again they came back normal. I have seen my GP once again who suggested i have a glandular fever blood test, she feels this is what i had and the test will show that i had this and put my mind at rest, after 6 weeks i still feel unwell and this dont seem to be letting up, i have had fatigue throughout and all though im going to work each day and getting on with things, it is harder, normally when im unwell my eyes look different and this has been the case for the last 6 weeks. Im 48 years old, healthy eater and went gym 5 times a week. Ive not had the energy to go gym since July as i was in USA for 4 weeks. I google every day as i dont feel im getting the support from my GP. I have 2 children and my outlook on this is if im going to get a cancer of any type, i want to have a fighting chance and catch it early, being unwell for 6 weeks for me has never happened before, i am very concerned and would really appreciate any advice. Sorry for my first post being so long.

Best, Rob

    Hi Rob,

Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry for the reason that has brought you here. Did your GP carry out the glandular fever blood test last time you saw her?

Do you have any other doctors in the practice who you could see for a second opinion?  Naturally, if there is anything untoward there, you want to catch it as soon as possible to give yourself a fighting chance.

It Is not a good idea to consult Dr Google, as you'll only manage to do what most of us here do and scare yourself for no particular gain. I am not a doctor, but there are other outcomes for the symptoms you describe, many of them less drastic than cancer.

If you cannot get a second opinion where you are, it may be time to move to a new practice.

I hope that you get a more satisfactory answer soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine
