Breast Cancer.

A diagnosis in July has meant one excision and last week an inner cavity shave'to get more margins out. Really aches sore and very bruised more so than the first op. The first one caused cording and that continues to cause pain down my arm. Anyone else had that? I'll be getting physio help again this Thursday. Long term recovery should be good but this thing isnt flu is it. Yet I know that I can keep positive through my faith in God and good friends. Thankfulness is a key.

    Hi Anne,

A warm welcome to our forum.

It is not that long since you had your initial surgery and you possibly have not fully recovered before you had the extra margin removed.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. The first was 8 years ago and the second was 7. I have had a lumpectomy and a double mastectomy and have had pain down my arm ever since. This was despite not having any lymph node involvment, radiotherapy or chemo.

I also had chording, which has thankfully now resolved. I attended a nurse who specialised in myofascial release and this made a tremendous difference to all of my scarring. I also had some keloid scarring as a result of having an open Cholecystectomy to remove my gall bladder 20 years earlier. She did some work on this too and, what an improvement I experienced despite the time lapse.

Unfortunately, I developed bilateral Lymphoedema in my arms following my mastectomies and that has not been so easy to overcome, but I'm still coping.

I am glad to hear that you can remain positive through your faith and trust in good friends.

I sincerely hope that the physio can help you when you attend on Thursday.

Please stay in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
