Advise re. Lymphoma symptoms

Hello, thank you firstly for taking time to read my post. I suppose I am looking for some reassurance or for someone to say I’m being silly, but I am worried.

Ive had swollen lymph nodes in my head and neck for several weeks now. One probably coming up for 2 months and the others two around 4 weeks. I am tired all the time, and it’s literally stopping me from doing what I want to do. I really have to push myself through some days. I’ve had intermittent fevers which will just come and go. I’ve started to get some mild headaches over the past week, and itching on my right calf. I am seeing my GP about this already, and had one set of full blood count and liver/kidney blood tests which came back fine. I’ve had another set done this morning along with LDH, CRP and a glandular fever blood test. (I know it’s not glandular fever as I’ve had that before).

I suppose my reason for posting this is to get other people’s advise who have been in my position with the thought of Lymphoma. If these blood tests come back ok as well, should I push for a different test? The lymph nodes are not decreasing in size, infact one has grown over the past 4 weeks. One of them is soft, whilst the others are very hard and do not move.

I know my GP knows best and I’m sure they will do what they feel right for my situation. From other peoples experience did you get normal blood results then further test showed lymphoma, or would the blood tests pick something up if it was? Other then extreme fatigue, the fevers etc I feel fine. No sore throat, colds/flu etc.

Thank you for any support or help :)

  • Hi,

I'm sorry I can't give you any answers but thought I would reply to say I'm kind of in the same boat.

I've not been feeling well since beginning of July, after going back and forwards to my GP, I am now under a heamotology consultant. I've had constant fatigue, general feeling of illness, high temperatures that come and go (although these have been over 39 for the last 2 weeks) pelvic and back ache and now recently feeling very nauseous.

The only abnormalities in my blood are raised lymphocytes and raised CRP and ESR levels. I have swollen glands on left side of my neck and under my jaw. I've had a CT scan which came back clear and I've got ultrasound of neck on Wednesday. Although it's reassuring in a lot of way my ct scan is clear, it still doesn't answer why I'm feeling so ill all the time.

My consultant has also referred me to a rheumatologist as they think all my symptoms could be due to an autoimmune disease. Im still awaiting the appointment for that. I have two young children so need to be well to look after them.

All I know about Lymphoma is that only a biopsy can rule it out or confirm it so if I was you, I would push for that for piece of mind. People mainly experience fever and swollen lymph nodes due to infection but if that has been ruled out then they need to be doing more tests and investigations to determine the cause.

Really hope you get some answers soon, I know how frustrating it is waiting for answers.

    Take care,

    Nat x

  • Hi Nat,

Thank you for your kind words. It’s nice to speak to someone who’s having a similar experience. (Nice probably isn’t the right word under the circumstances, but I’m sure you know what I mean). It is so frustrating. I’ve been signed off work for the past 3 weeks to try and give myself more time to rest but it’s not changed a thing. Due back to work on Monday. I also have an 8 and almost 7 year old so I totally understand what you mean regarding needing to be well. Plus my husband works away Monday-Friday so I am on my own in the week.

Ive got to go back to see the GP again next week once the blood results are back in so I will see what he suggests. The tests and waiting is awful, I just want to feel like my normal self again.

    Thank you

  • Hiya,

Yes I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes makes you think like you are going mad until you speak to someone in a similar situation. My children are nearly 1 and nearly 3 so they very much depend on me and my husband works shifts so I know what you mean. Being on your own at night certainly doesn't help matters as it's when you allow your mind to wander.

I'm also off work due to feeling so unwell, also had to cancel our holiday as need to be available for appointments and not feeling well enough to be travelling so far.

Let me know how you get on and always here to talk should you want to. Hoping it all turns out to be something easy to manage and we both get to the bottom of it soon x

  • Hi, I have lymphoma and just had my 4th chemo treatment and doing very well. My first symptom was a lump in my neck and went to the doctors to get it checked. She referred me to an ENT consultant who put a camera down my nose to check to see if everything was OK, it was but he sent me for an ultrasound and had a FNA biopsy which showed I had lymphoma. I have autoimmune problems and I thought my symptoms were down to that. I had lost a lot of weight which doctors couldn't explain why, my rheumatologist referred me to a gastrologist and all the tests were clear, I had night sweats as well and fatique. I also had a terrible itchy scalp. In a way I was so relieved to get a diagnosis as I was getting so worried. I didn't have any blood tests done for the lymphoma but I was getting them checked by my own GP, I was on medication to suppress my immune system and my bloods were all ok. I had to drink a contrast drink before my ct scan as it shows cancer cells more clearly and also had the dye injected into my arm. It showed I had stage 3 lymphoma and the biopsies diagnosed that I had a nodal marginal zone b lymphoma which is very rare. I hope this answers some of your questions and also hope you get a diagnosis soon, it is a shock to hear the Cancer word but the care the NHS give is wonderful. I can't believe I'm on my fourth treatment and just had my ct scan again and it showed up that the treatment is working. 2 more to go hopefully. I wish you well.

  • I know this is an old thread but did you get answers? I am having fevers on and off aswell and dont know why
